I have been wanting to get a car to build into a show car. I've been thinking about buying a 96 or up hatch. I have around $8000 to spend right away. Would you suggest getting an older hatch and getting a motor swap, or just getting a newer hatch with less miles and keeping the stock engine? I'm not trying to go for speed but it would be nice to have a car that isn't really slow. suggestions??

buy it to your comforts, if you like power this or that, or you like this style better than the other...don't buy it becuase someone else might like it better than another car, its your car, and its your platform for creating a piece of art, only you know what you are going to do with it..but if you really want my opinion, i would say get a newer hatch, 99-00, and you won't have much problems with little stuff, and you can spend it on looks..just don't be one of those people that look like a damn airport with the wings and lights and ****, and then try reving to people..cuz you ain't gonna go no where with the dx engine...but have fun and be creative...my 2 cents..

my opinion.. show is cause u spend hella money and next year ur car would be played out. resale price sucks. i say get a newer hatch if u want show cause i have never seena eg hatch without dings that hasent had bodywork done. for a little speed get a eg si.. for a swap with good speed b18b. good luck paint it pink

Thanx for your suggestions. I think I'm gonna go for a 96 or up hatch, and keep the stock engine for a while, but in the future get a swap. And that's funny you said paint it pink cause that's what I want to do. Or at least get a red pearl over white paint so it will look pink.
