Basically looking for something to pick up as a new daily driver, i want something with some pep, but i also want it not to be too loud, decent on gas, decent ride etc.


I've been thinking about 99-00 SI's as they seem to be the most civilized of the civics. I've never been huge on integras, but from what I understand they are more "upscale"


I'm also open to other suggestions. I have a 92 CX at the moment, was considering putting in a GSR motor but then I look at everything it lacks (suspension mostly here, sound deadening, rear speakers etc) and it's just not worth it to overhaul it, looking to just get something new.

Also open to any suggestions as well.

well if it was me i'd keep the car the way it is now, getting over 35-40mpg and laugh at everyone as the gas station

but i voted 99-00 Si, but thats becuase i like them ahha

even thought i accidently did 92-95 but there both good haha

if you do a lot of freeway driving the EM1 wouldn't be too great of a DD for gas purposes

Something is wrong with my cx, i get between 28-32, it runs really rich.

Probably an o2 sensor, but a 300$ guess really isn't my cup of tea.


Keep them coming please, i've only ever driven a 93 dx sedan and 92 cx hatch.

I'd get the teggy, they have power everything and can be had for cheaper. I just recently passed up a deal on a 1995 teggy for $2500. They can be had for very cheap and in great shape with low miles.

I would not waste your time looking for a SI of any kind because the prices will be too high. The market is still in demand for them and they always have an inflated price.

You can find universal oxygen senors for like $85 tops. Either that or hit the junk yards and cross your fingers. I say figure out what is wrong with your civic before jumping on the let's get a new car band wagon......but.....if I had to pick one, I'd ***** a em1. Then buy more ammo for my shotgun. Thieves are not your car's friends.

I'd get an EX over an Si (6th gen). Pretty close to the same thing, save for some styling, the engine and the rear disk brakes. All stuff I'd replace anyway.

i love driving my si, its a fun all around car. and i still get 34-38 mpg with it. i dont know why i get that good with it, but i do with 91 octane and i/h/e. and cant complain about the factory B16. tegs are nice but GSR's are just as pricey as an SI but i think that the interior looks dated and the back seats even smaller then the civics. dont know if thats much of a concern, but a lady friend and you might run into problems with a smaller back seat then what the civic already has haha

92-95 Civic VX w/AC. you can tweak it to well over 50mpg and laugh you way past all the gas stations!

so you would want a si instead of an ex, right, if you're replacing the...anyway. to original poster, keep the car you have. swap a b18a/b, and be happy. for a daily driver, a b18b is enough fun, and can still give you 30mpg++.

eg forever and for always with me, great styling and you can just get the ex to save money and have a gas friendly d16. I even borrowed my friends eg ex (the pearl isle green, dumped on black rims) to take a girl out, and my eg (hatch ) was in pieces, lol.

You must be a fairly small guy if you can fit across the back seat of your EM1. Theres no way in hell i could.

OP: Id go with an EM1 if you are not doing too much interstate/highway driving. I love mine and its got a little pep.

Toss up between Integra and Si. Both are pretty similar powerwise. But Si will be more fun because of the VTEC factor, but more prone to theft versus the integra.

I actually just sold my vx swap and put in an Ls with all the bolt ons and clutch and flywheel and get about 37mpg

Didn't take the time to read all the posts, but for a DD, the si is not that great of a choice. I would not want to be daily driving a thief magnet that I would have to worry about 24/7. Yes there are some security measures you can do to protect it, but that is kind of ruining the reliability and lack of a headache that you would want a daily driver to provide.

The em1 b16 short gears are not good for long freeway drive's belive me i know all the way to Seattle and back!!!!

What would be the best shell to drop a GSR or even an LS swap into then?

Seems the SI just comes with the best overall package.

I hesitate to do it in my CX because like I said, the thing is just WAY too loud, no rear speakers, the suspension is utter ****, etc.


Maybe like a 95 si or even ex? I don't like the idea of the short gears and goign 4k rpm on the highway in the em1, thanks for that.

a integra or EM1 is out of the question, even if there stock your chances of getting it stolen is pretty high. With a few mods here and there your chances of getting it stolen is definate. I'd keep the CX, do the regular motor/chassis maintence and then throw in the GSR motor. Keep in mind you'll need to run a quite exhaust setup and try looking as stock as possible. Just my opinion......

I've been driving my 96+ Civic Coupe as / EJ8 as a dd and it's way more comfortable than my old EG. It's also does pretty well on gas at 30+ mpg though the 92 civic cx got like 45-50mpg.

No... I'm saying I don't like the following in the Si, so I would replace it on that car too.
- Engine (OMG, I HATE this engine)
- Grille (Not really into the '99-'00 front so much anyway)
- Climate Control (don't like the goofy looking *****)

So the only thing I want is some rear disk brakes on my '98 EX. Wow, I should so sell it and go for the Si since it obviously fits my wants and needs better.

So yes, the Si is a huge waste of money (purchase, insurance) and too much of an attention getter (yes, highschool-age-boys, I can go 0-60 in 4 seconds and my top speed is 230mph; yes, my VTEC is "awesome").

I prefer the EX. I do not like the Si.

My 99 GSR (before i turboed it) was a great DD. It was quiet, had a reasonable amount of power, was fun to drive and got good gas mileage. I wasn't a huge fan of their looks either, but once you own one, they kind of grow on you. I suggested the 94-01 Integra because i think you'd be a lot happier with something slightly more refined than a Civic Si. My GSR has leather which is a nice addition for a DD i think...also, the Integra line feels more like a solid car. It has more noise insulation and isn't as clunky as my previous Civic(s).
