what is actually illegal on a car?
so i need help, what is actually illegal? so far i thought tint on the front windshield but don't know how long? i think like 4" from the top. exhaust being to loud, so you need a silencer, license plate on dash board, your car being too low. but how low? what else is there? anyone help me with these topics. thanks

The law changes from state to state.
If you'd used your head, you would have known to do a google search for DOT and narrow it down to your state.

tint is 3 inches from the top, exhaust too loud? get a stock one, license plate? bolt it on your front bumper. too low? loose the weight in your car or yourself jk . raise it up
it's really self explanatory iono

Not really, it varies from state to state. Not ONE of those laws are the same here.

Sounds like he just wants a general understanding of the laws so he doesn't do anything illegal to his car. I don't think he got pulled over and ticketed for loud exhaust, being too low, no license plate, and tint.
To the op: like others have said, search on google. I think the DMV's website states all the laws.

cali
middle of headlight to ground 21 inches,
exhaust 95 decibels from 6 inches
all parts must have carb approved stickers, must have recipts and will still be liable for breaking the law,
engine swpas must be cali bar approved,
air bag must be funtional
no mod of smog equipment (including exhaust)
lowest point of car cannot execed bottom of the rim this means lips
just be like a certain someone, keep it looking like a sleeper, throw a light truck motor in it, with a turbo and some nitrous and call it a day?

I have a coworker with the most ridiculous tint.
All windows are 5%. The FULL windsheild is 35%. Been like that for a year. I have no clue how he does not get ticketed for it....

Here, the rule is nothing on the w/s lower than the a-line. If you don't know what that is, start in the upper left corner of your windshield, sitting in the car. Look down the a-pillar until you see an "A" next to an arrow pointing down to a line. That's the a-line, and it's a pretty common reference point for what's allowed. If there is no a-line, then nothing is allowed on the windshield at all.
But, as previously mentioned, the laws vary from state to state.

even if he has all these laws, the cops will probably make up some balony up just to write you up so he wouldn't look stupid. nothing personal, but i have nothing against cops, they keep some people in line.
that's why i've been trying to avoid the engine swap process, i don't want to get pulled over and hassled. even if, you can't have a nice flossy looking honda without getting pulled over.

**** man, we don't have lowering minimums in NY, you can have both bumpers and the sideskirts dragging, but if you tried driving around on NYS streets with the clearance of a cig pack under your car, your parts would get TORN TO **** - no special driving, no "avoid the potholes" - 500 miles later htat car would look like it went through a war w/ that low of a drop.
****, that's one thing that's good in cali, u guys got nice roads, especially cement ftw - up in NY nobody even heard of cement roads .

in flordia you can have it as low as you want.as long as you can see the distance required in front of you the window tint could only be done tot he a1 mark on the windshield and exhaust they really dont bother you unless your horseing around.the liscence plates we only have one on the back of the car.

I didn't even know they made cement roads.
