well this sucks..
So, I have an calculus exam promptly at 8am. I'm out the house by 7:30 thinking I'm making great time... Press down the clutch to shift into 4th. It doesn't come back up, clutch is stuck to the floor :'(. I'm forced to roll to the side of the road in what looks like a pretty sketchy *** neighborhood. Feels like the clutch cable snapped or something because there's no pressure on the clutch pedal at all..
EJ1 btw. If there's something easy I could do please let me know I'm currently waiting on the tow truck, whilst possible hot boys keep walking by looking in the window -___-
Oh yeah, I'm in Miami, FL. < Not good lol

Hydraulic leak, IMHO.
Are you @ FIU? That's the one place in Miami my car has been consistently messed with (twice, main campus parking lot)...

Its a 95 ex coupe. So yes it has a hydro clutch. What type of things could the problem be and what do you estimate the costs? This mechanic is trying to rip me off I think, he didn't even look at the car hardly and he said 300 bucks WTF

Check for fluid in the reservoir. If empty, check for leaks in the line, near the slave cylinder, or inside the driver foot well (clutch master cylinder).

We diagnosed the leak is at that seal by the front of the tranny. I'm guessing that is the slave cylinder. How much should I be paying for him to replace that seal and top off the fluid?

For one I don't know how, I don't have time to figure it out. I need to get to work. I also cant pay to get it towed somewhere else. I need to drive away from this shop. I really need to know what I should be paying so I can talk it over with the mechanic??

Unless you have a hydraulic leak the clutch pedal should always come back unless the pressure plate has somehow disintegrated.
If you were going to class you could have just poured some fluid in the clutch reservoir, pumped the pedal a couple times and been on your way.
You need to find the leak, buy a replacement part and put it in.
A slave cylinder is extremely easy. There's 3 bolts involved; 2 holding it to the trans, 1 holding in the hydraulic line.
Master cylinder is a bit more complicated. There's 2 bolts on each side and the hydraulic line but you need to disconnect the clutch pedal from inside the car which is a pain in the dick.

Thankyou for responding! I honestly did not know any of that, but I guess now I know lol. But honestly I just need a price .. How much would you pay a mechanic to replace that seal on the slave and master cylinder?

Re: well this sucks..
I wouldn't pay more than $80 I guess. I just did this myself with a $13 replacement from autozone. Took me 1hr 20 min from start to finish in the 25°F weather last week.
I can throw together a guide if you can't find one by searching.
You need a bucket, brake fluid, a 12mm socket and wrench, a 10mm line wrench, and an 8mm wrench (bleeder bolt). Very simple if you have the correct tools.

Re: well this sucks..
On topic....OP, $300 seems a bit much for just a slave cylinder replacement. The part itself should be between $30-60. It's 2 bolts to remove. Then remove the clutch line. Then grease, re-install, and bleed the system. That should take anybody with a wrench like 20-45 mins. So that leaves $240 for labor. That's over $300 per hour in LABOR! F that.
