Default Well my car is gone(damn you mother!!!)

Well for some odd reason my mom is selling my car(she helped pay for it and it is under her name so their is nothing I can do about it). So time to get a higher paying job while I attend college to get another civic. I was thinking about just getting a 95 hatchback with a ton of miles and doing a b16 swap right away. Is that smart? I hope so. Then I was kinda wondering after the basic i/h/e what shoudl be my next couple of steps in upgrades if I want a mid 13 second car that is n/a. Well thanks for the help.

Well if you wanna run 13s, don't get a B16A. What a pain in the butt.

cram an H22 in there and you'll be set. Or a B18C with alot of weight reduction.

IMO, I would get a B16. Everyone says that they arn't good. Here is my reasoning. Say the price of a used/new B18 is $5,000 uninstalled, that should be on the low side, but we will say $4,500 just for the fun of it. If you bought a B16 (which is a hell of a lot cheaper) put the difference of the price of the 2 motors into modifications into the B16 (doing this will make the price difference fair) the B16 will go faster. Yes the torque isn't there, but I can't justify spend $2,000 more for just a little torque. There is nothing wrong with the B16 besides the stroke of the motor is shorter. Just my $.02

Yeah, I was told to get a b16a and Gen III for when I do my motor swap.

I thought I remember someone did a poll and the b16a swap had the most votes?

$5000 for a b18 uninstalled?! I bought my 95 B18C1 (w/20k miles) for $3000. And you can find them all over the place from $2500 - $3500. Where are you getting your prices from?

Well the only good shop in my area said 3500 for a b16 installed. I really dont have to money for a b18c. I didnt ask what it was but I can just imagine. Well thanks for the advise everyone. Just making sure. So you do think it would be alright if I bought a hatchback with a **** load of miles on it if I am doing an entire swap?

Don't put that heavy of an engine in a civic, it will be hell trying to drive around town. The B18C would be a good idea, but you could also turbo the B16 and have a pretty fast car.

Ya, don't use the H22, do like I did and go LS/VTEC. I ran a 12.9 with a 1.8 60ft on 13" slicks friday night, without my N2O running. I ran the N2O on the street the other night, and just going off of that, I am VERY confident that I will break into the 11's on the bottle.

Well my plans (sort of) for the car goes like this. As of now I cant afford a B18 or I would get one. I most likly will get a b16 , aem cai, aem pulleys, dc sport headers, greddy or tanabe exhaust, jun cams and cam gears and valve springs and retainers, bigger bore throttle body and port matched intake manifold, p&p the head and that 5 angle valve job(I dont know what it is but I heard it does something good , and I guess a ecu of some sort. From their if it isnt fast enough I really dont know what to do pistons and rods? Turbo?. Maybe If I get some kind of construction job this summer I can spring for a b18. Oh and by the way are you guys talking about a gsr motor or a type r when refering to the b18. Well thanks for the help and opinions.

Just a little reference for you here...

B16 = Civic Si Engine
B18B = Integra LS Engine (Non-VTEC)
B18C1 = Integra GS-R Engine (VTEC)
B18C5 = Integra Type-R Engine (VTEC)
H22 = Prelude Engine

There are more specific designations, but these are the basic.

I just don't see the point in a fully built n/a b16a unless you're doing it for bragging rights. You'll be lucky to get over 200hp to the ground and the torque is another story entirely. Sometimes you have to step back and look at just why you would want to spend a good $4000-5000 on parts for a motor and have it barely even be close to 200whp.

b18s and b20s are a lot more fun... but oh well...

You could always just do the b16 swap and buy a crv or ls shorty later and build it proper.. then swap shortblocks...

none you people mentioned the b20 non vtec from the crv. take the b20 with the b16 head matched with a hatch body, and you should have 12's.

You don't have enough for a B18, but you have enough to get a B16 + all those things?!!! Just the Jun cams + valve springs will be 2000+!!! Doesn't make too much sense to me...

No no no no. Iam just getting the engine and maybe i/h/e right away. I wont get most of the other stuff for a long time(well its gonna take me a while to save the money). Well if I went with a gsr motor would that be alot better? There is not way Iam waiting till I can get a tyrpe r engine. That would take forever. Cause Iam pretty sure a gsr swap is over five by me(installed). Well thanks for the help.

Ahh just another food for thought thing. I could be wrong here so Iam not trying to sound prickesh. Iam not denying the money factor when building up a b16 but did anyone else see that article in last months import tunner. Wasnt there a n/a civic that had a full interior and had a b16 engine that did low 13s? O well knowing me Iam most likely mistaken.

Sorry... My bad!! I thought you were getting everything at once. I think a GSR would be much easier to get into mid 13's than B16. Of course it's considerably more expensive, but we offer this swap for about 5500$ canadian. I guess swaps are more expensive in the US. I still suggest you wait for a B18 because it makes significantly more torque and definately don't need 2000$ cams to get into the 13's. B18 just has more potential period. Think about it...

Ok well I might just save up untill I can afford the b18c1 I am not spending like 6 or 7 grand on a type r engine (I really wish I could get it but I need a car by summer). What would I have to do if I got a b18c1 (gsr) engine to get mid 13 second 1/4. Thanks for the help!
