Default Well, i'm screwed now.

Okay, I was driving to class today and I was pulling up in my friends yard and there were two fine *** girls walking up the sidewalk, I went to put the car in 1st to get up the drive way and grrrr...crkkk. 1st gear syncros totally gone. bye bye tranny. I've got another one on the way but it kinda puts a cramp on my trip to daytona beach this weekend.

btw: i put the part about the girls in there because it was pretty embarassing to have my car **** up right then and there.

This might sound stupid, but how do the syncros go? Does the tranny have to be old with lots of abuse?

The syncro is basically a thing that spins around and smooths the engagement of the gears (i know what they do, lamens explinations) Yeah, if the tranny has 150000 miles on it sure they car get busted. I guess the teeth wear off it or something.

Damn, i'm thinking of getting a '93 Si with 130k miles. I plan on driving it hard (putting on 16s when I have money), will I have to worry about this in the near future?

no, it crept up it in 2nd. I've still got 2-5, and reverse works, although it's kinda gotta be jammed a little harder than usual.

Well, let me put it to you this way. At 100,000 miles when i bought the car, it was as close to perfect mechanically as they get. 50,000 miles later of hard driving, lots of drag racing, including use of NOS, the tranny dies. Not a bad run.

this was the same setup my friend had when he blew the tranny.
about 130k, 94 si, 16s and stage 3 clutch.
he blew his tranny 2 more times after that, cuz of faulty repair and scamming mechanics.

Well you can always start the car in 2nd gear until you get it fixed. Shouldn't be too hard on the clutch, just don't expect to take off too fast lol. In the future, to save your synchros, you can double-clutch when down-shifting or when up-shifting two gears. I know, I know, this is somewhat overkill, but it will save the synchros in the long run since they won't work as hard!!

Hey ClimaxEX/Plan B, sorry to hear about that. I figured it was you because I saw you trying to get in tough with H22A Medina about a tranny

As for the SOHC trannies?

THEY SUCK.

I tore through 3 of them before I got fed up and saved for my first swap. The two I ripped through were purchased with 40K and then 32K, and were fucked within 6 months or so. This was just driving hard with only a ******* intake and clutch. Car did pull 15.6 all day though with just the intake and clutch with full interior weighing 2269lbs.

**** the single cam and save for a swap. Every penney you waste on the SOHC could go towards a DOHC.

I don't know, transmissions are on that level of honda wisdom that I have yet to achieve.
