well that was fun while it lasted....swap??
i just bought my first honda a 98 civic ex someone had put a mini me in it and the motor came from a pick and pull it ran good when i first got it sounded good and everything and last weekend i was heading home when it started making alot of noise i tore the head off thinking it was valves from the timing belt jumping teeth but everything looked fine so i pulled the oil pan to find a bearing that was kinda still there and the other was badly scarred. i have found a d16 with 120k on it from a junkyard for $200 but the syncros are out of my tranny so i will need a transmission too, would it be better to try to find a b18 engine and tranny or just put in another single cam?

depends on your money situation. if money isnt an object go b/h/k/j but if you are on a budget and cant afford much downtime i would look into another d-series.

is a common thing for d series motors to spin bearing or could this be from the previous owner not taking care of it? is there anything to do to help prevent this?

its not a common thing for them to do that unless you redline everywhere you go. Its probably from a previous owner's abuse and neglect. Now as for the motor, i'd go with a B-series. You won't be disappointed cuz i certainly am not. I work at a junkyard here in Cincinnati and built me an LSVTEC with low *** prices. I got a VictorX intake mani for $40 lol

indeed it is. op if you can, and assuming you stay d-series, find yourself a z6 to replace your current engine with. they have 2 oiling ports per rod journal vs 1 on the d16y engines and seem to spin rod bearings less often.

i'd stick with the D man... just get another motor from pick a part and tranny and call it a day.. better bang for your buck.. i personally wouldnt get a B from pick a part.. that motor was probably red-lined every day

unless you're talking bout the d15b ;p that'll make plenty of power
but he's not.. get a z6 head man, way better than y8.. but y8 is good too, it'll work!!

get a cheap D series to get it running again. Save your money and whatever route you go, do it right the first time or it will blow up.
