Default Weld nut on LCA...replacement?

I'm getting a set of low mileage OEM SI shocks this week, but the weld nut on the right rear damper fork is stripped. Similar to the problem with the bolt seizing, which is all too common, only this time the nut stripped too. I will still be able to use the stock bolt that I have with my car presently, so strength of bolts between stock and Home Depot or Lowe's isn't a concern (I've read about a lot of controversy with this).

So, can I just break the welds on the stripped nut and use a new nut without welding the new nut to the damper fork?

I don't readily have access to a welder, otherwise I'd tack it on. Seems to me that the big concern is the bolt that connects the LCA and damper and it's strength capabilities, which, as I said, isn't a concern in this situation.

Also, I know this bolt is a M10 x 80mm long from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com, but what's the pitch of the bolt? 1.0, 1.25...? Need to make sure I know that before I go buy a nut.

Thanks.

Hmm, interesting question. I am going to say yes you can do that. Reason I say this is because on my car where the LCA connects to the subframe, I've got a similar problem. The welded nut that's surrounded by a circle of metal on the inside of the subframe has become unwelded and is now it's own separate part. As long as I tighten it down, it won't budge.

So essentially you have the same issue with the nut not being welded any longer, just in a difference location. Good to know it works for you too. If it works for you, it should work for me...I hope.

Thanks litterbox, hopefully I can get some info on the pitch of the bolt. I suppose I could always just buy the 1.0 and 1.25 pitch, provided they're both available.

Ya, mine's been detached for around 6 months I think. No probems here.

Do you think the pitch would be in helms? Let me go check.

This is what helms says:

Damper Mounting Bolt
(Self-Locking Bolt)
10x1.25mm

Thank you litterbox...I appreciate it. I was out of the office all day, but was going to consult the Helms tonight.

Well, this shouldn't be a problem at all now.
<-----Crosses fingers

Thanks again man.
