Default weird vtec point

i bought a civic HB with a b16a2 swapped in it already. Vtec is hitting at 6500rpm. OBD2 ecu. What flashes, or ecu is out there that causes this. Another thing is the rpm seems to be very high. Like if im going 80mph in 5th gear the rpm is at like 5-6krpm.

tach is right. its a obd2, no vafc installed

i need someone to clear this up for me to:
if u have a vafc and u set ur vtec point at a certain level, and when u take that VAFC back out. will it stil l remain the same? or will it go back to stock vtec point

Depending on what year civic it is your VSS and the tach signal could be off.

It's kinda hard to tell without more details

What does that have to do with anything?

your tach is way off, you may not notice it in the lower RPMS. It could be that and your VTEC point is a little higher than stock, maybe 5500 or higher. So with your tach being off it makes it seem even higher, my tach is off slightly, at 80mph im at 5k with a type r tranmission.

Hey man.

I don't know much about how short the B16 trannys are as I've never done a whole lot of highway miles w/ a B16 tranny.

Though I've definitely done over 100 so I can say for sure that 6k RPM @ 80mph in 5th is insanity...

yeah i was trying to remember what it was @80, i was thinking around 4,200
to poster, sounds like it's off 1,500 rpms. as to fix's, could be a cluster tach feed wire, distributor. i have a p30 obd1. i don't know how the obd2 is wired, if it goes to the ecm first then cluster. i'm guessing just a straight shot. first thing i would do is check connections at the distributor and cluster, then check the tach. wire for continuity

Try borrowing an aftermarket tach from someone and see if it reads the same.
My D16Y8 goes 80mph@3500 RPM

yeah the Si gears are 77mph is 4000 rpm in 5th gear. Either the tach is off or something in the tranny has been swapped out.
