Default Weird idle surge

I know how the majority of these idle surge threads go. I already know all of the normal causes. About 2 months ago i had an idle surge with my b20 and i checked for vaccum leaks, cleaned the iacv and tighted the fitv. Ended up being the fitv being really loose. So i tightened it and was on my way.
Now today while at a stop light i push in the clutch and give it alittle gas..and i hear that familar annoying noise. Alittle pissed off i go into my garage and take of the fitv and surpisingly its tight. Then i bleed my coolant and still nothing. I dont have a clue what it could be. But its somewhat strange because its usually only when i give the car partial throttle. Will hold the rpm for a second, then drop down about 1000 then go back up and drop down etc.

My last car w/ a d16z6 had something that sounds like this. I did all the usual trouble shooting for hunting idle (bleed, FITV etc) which helped a bit. Still, I ended up with this lingering issue similar to yours--when I would slow down to stop and lift throttle off the revs would catch at about 1G, drop, and then start hunting from real low to about 1000-1500 RPM, almost wanted to stall sometimes. After beating my head in for a day or two I was told to check the valve lash. Sounds crazy I know, but sure enough, my clearances were FU*KED up big time. As soon as I had them at spec the odd idle problem dissapeared and never came back.

Now, I know you're running a B20, not a z6, but I used to see a lot of CRV's come in for service that would have the valve lash impacted out of spec like you would not believe, even from standard daily driving w/ little old ladies. I don't know the specifics but I do remember hearing some B20's tend to close up the lash over a shorter period than a D series or teg motor.

Worth a try I suppose if you're stumped. Good luck.

Im pretty sure this may be the problem. I just adjusted them about 2 months ago trying to fix my old idle surge. Well long story short they were really loose and it was just bad news. I figured i could pull through until i get the new one on withen the month. But im sure they are needed an adjustment. Ill see if this fixes the problem.

Adjusted my valves several times before, I usually do it when the engine is cold. Ive heard different stories... like its better to have the valves just a little bit lose on the feelers and other say it should be a snug fit on the feelers... i always use three for the intake side and three for the exhasut side making sure there not too too tight and not too lose. Right now it is finally starting to warm up again, but in the cold mornings the the valve lash is very noisy, so I know it's due. I too have the strange idle problems and no typical solution and a grand in parts has worked. So maybe this valve job will help it out.
