weird burning smell after racing??
i have a 95' LS swapped civic. the engine has 90k miles on it. i recently noticed that after i race, there is a burning smell from inside the car. smells like burning oil? is this normal or something? it never did this before. even when i'm just at a stoplight, and redline 1st and 2nd. after that, i can smell that burning smell. or is it just because my engine has a lot of miles or something?

sounds like clutch burning , worst smell, for two reason, it's your money being burnt away (literally) and it's just a bad smell.

have you changed your oil recently?? maybe you spilled some somewhere like on the header/downpipe/cat and its burning off??
if not then its the clutch most likely like the other guys said

Clutch smells nothing like oil. He's probably backing up oil in his PCV (which I can almost guarantee has never been replaced) or blowing it by his rings and/or valve stem seals.
The PCV valve is a relatively easy fix as compared to the other two...I'd look into that first.

the clutch isn't even a month new, so i really doubt it's that (although i have grinded it a few times already). and the PCV valve is on the IM correct?

did you properly break the clutch in? also you do burn oil in higher Rpm's so that could also be what you are smelling.

true, the PCV would be reasonable. THe real test would be autox, if his PCV bad he would have a CLOUD of smoke coming out of the back after a long hard turn. Probably just bad rings is my bet. My car used to smoke pretty bad when it was being driven hard because it had a bad ring on #1. I never smell it though. With that being said i think it would be something leaking or burning in the engine bay in order for you to smell it. That would mean either an exhaust leak in combination with the bad rings/valve guides-seals or oil physically spilling somewhere.

Re: weird burning smell after racing?? (itsJDMyo)
and about the rings being a possibility, a while back, i was racing and one of my coolant hoses that goes to the IM busted, and white smoke started to pour out of my exhaust as i was racing down the track. and i didn't really notice it until i was almost at the finish line. so i basically raced a full 1/4 mile with a coolant hose busted off my IM. white smoke started to pour out of my exhaust and coolant shot everywhere in my engine. everything seems to be driving fine now, but could that be a possiblity that my rings might be bad?

i have the same clutch and i also smell is burning, under normal driving conditions. I have also only had it for a couple of months, but the smell went dissipated fairly quickly. so it prolly isn't the clutch if it is continually smelling the same.
