Default Weight of a gutted EJ8 (ek coupe you fools)

I plan on doing this, but i wanna know that it is worth it.

I have an 99 EX Coupe (heaviest of all, I know). I'm going to essentially take out everything in the interior. Only things that will be left are the dash (minus air bags and unnecessaries) and the driver's seat. I'm going to replace the sunroof with sheet aluminum, and hopefully get some milano red dx (no power motors) doors.

How much did you guys drop in weight from gutting, and how much was left or gone when you were done?

Also, please, this is for 96-00 civic coupes. No hatches.

dont do it, it will be loud road noise, for just a little bit of wieght, wont make a difference to you most likely, the sun room idea isnt a bad idea, and nother wieght savings idea i would use is take out power steering, to free up pullie hp.

From what i can remember interior of a coupe is about 50 lbs more then a hatch. There was a thread done back in the day about loosing weight and i think all his interior, carpet, sound deadening and 1 seat lost him 125-150 pounds. So add that other 50 and you got 200 lbs.

Then i heard sunroofs weighs 50 to 75 pounds.

So if you take out all interior, carpet, sound deadening, spare, sunroof, AC, PS, heater core, a seat/or both and replace with racing seats. I think you should be loosing about 300 pounds.

Now if i remember correctly that means that your car will weigh about the same as a DX with full interior and all in it. Not worth it in my opinion, you should have got a DX to do that with.

Instead of sheet metal, why not get a CF panel? Unless you are going to weld the opening.

Cut away the back seat brackets, spare tire holder, and all the little metal pieces. As for dash, you know the drill, no heater and no air bag.

Daily driven or track only? If latter, just gut the door and get rid of the windows all together.

I have always wondered if you can gut the metal hood. I remember someone did it on H-T, the skeleton backing of the metal hood so it really becomes a sheet metal. You might need hood pins after that.

Front/rear re-bar, your call.

just buy a lighter car .... eg cx hatch the way to go
i think the specs are minus 100 lbs= 1 tenth of a sec off 1/4 mile ..not worth it

I already have no a/c, no ps. This will essentially be a track only car. But short of replacing w/ cf and lexan, I'd like to know how much I can lose.

well if it was an EJ8, then it wouldnt be an EK at all. Your title is horrid. fool.

next time call refer to the EJ8 as (96-00) because that is right.

Most people wouldn't have a clue. Just like everyone calls their eh's eg's even though they are eh's.

It is the similar body styling of an ek, but in coupe form. Jesus, this is why i rarely come into the civic forum anymore.

Did he not state "EJ8" in the title already? "EK Coupe" is for folks who don't know what EJ8 means.

my 99 coupe is gutted out behind the front seats.... interior, back seat, tar stuff, metal mounting points, and whatever else didn't NEED to be there.... also, a/c and p/s were completely pulled out. i weighed my car at the drag strip and it's just over 2200 lbs. stock jdm gsr motor w/ b16 tranny and it runs high 13's. yes, it's louder, but then again i drive around with an open header. hope that helps.

do that.. i wanted to gut my civic.. tok out the back seats.. drove around for like a week.. then put it back in because it was sucked not having any... if ur situation is different by all means go for it.. but taking everything out and then putting it back in is a biotch.

I took out my back seats because within 5 years of owning this vehicle, the trip which required passenger(s) in the back were no more than 5 trips per year. Hence, I eliminated them.

Just find someone that will trade your ex for a dx. or trade it in a get a dx. sound deading will net you about 20lbs. But then there is alot of noise. I have my car gutted. but i put my back seats back in, and added floor mats to quiet the noise down. And as far as exhuast noise, turbos do make the best mufflers

lol, but for future reference, if he was serious id go lexan windows all around, skin the doors, remove bolts, swap to rear drum, no sway bars, anything any bracket that i do not need neeeds to come out, ie there are 50 of em under the dasah and hood area lmao, it seriusly gets light, btw bench racing//tuning is ghey, his car wouldnt weigh as much as a full dx becuase ITS THE SAME CAR!!!!!!! ex only has a few minor things added to it but we're removing all of it ie sway bars and what not also anyone else pnaning on doing a drag car setup try and use as least bolts as possible safley bolts are heavy!!!!! when it comes to full out racing, as a general rule every 100 pounds gets .2 ish off the quater mile for out civics even more when we become lighter and lighter
