Default weight-- EK hatch vs. coupe

I was comparing the weight of the two and noticed that there was only a few pounds difference between the dx hatch and the coupe. is this true? or is the website wrong? Because i personally think the coupe looks better.

I believe you're right. There isn't much weight difference in between those two.

My 2000 CX Hatch = 2520
AutoX partners 1994 EX Coupe = 2380
Same scales, no driver, perhaps 20 pounds in gear.

Both have swaps and other work done. Both have full interior.

CX/DX hatchback = 2220-60
DX coupe= 2271-2320
EX coupe = 2450-2500
HX coupe = 2320-2400
Si Coupe = 2550-2600

and think usually the base models don't have anything, crappy brakes, no swaybars, small lighter wheels, once you upgrade you will be at the same weight or more

from expirence, my buddy has a 93 Teg (coupe) b20 and whole works, its a LS model (but it weights at 2360lbs), next is my buddy with 92 Civic Si h-back = b16a swap, also full interior and what not = 2400lbs, next my CX/DX h-back with large brakes, b16a, ITR sway bars, 15" wheels = 2250lbs, but thats only 110lbs less then my buddys Teg, if he remove the interior he will be close to my wheight...

Well if you're looking for just a fast car get a hatch. Otherwise get a coupe.

Only reason I ever got into the Honda community is because of the Hatch's light weight and easy quick power from swaps. Otherwise I'd have gotten something else.

Never make a purchase based on weight?

Sorry, but if you want to go fast for cheaper then you will make purchases based on weight.

Why would I say this? Because less weight equals better handling, acceleration, braking, etc. for less money than it would in a heavier car.

Am I saying get the DX hatch over the DX coupe because of weight?

NO

But in terms of the 1992-1995 cars the CX and VX hatches ARE lighter than the DX coupes and hatches.

I had a 1992 Si hatchback with a B18C1 and all my pals roasted my *** with their CX, VX, and DX B18C1 hatches because of WEIGHT

I got a B18C5 and only then after making over 25whp more than them could I pull on them.

Then I sold that clean-*** Si hatch and got a CX. As soon as it's done I'm sure the 230lbs. difference will be totally noticable.

Weight IS worth making a purchasing decision on.

Why do you think the 99-00 Si runs so much slower than a good old 1992 CX with B16A2 and same mods?

You're comparing 92-95 Civic models right?

What accounts for the differences in weights for all these models? I suppose the Si has a sunroof but doesn't it also have swaybars, disc brakes etc that the other models do not have?

Just curious, since I'm not from USA...

Si has more tar, various bracketry for rear speakers, bracing in the unibody for the sunroof too - it all adds up.

I've never seen proof that drums weigh less/more than the discs. Anybody?

I'm curious to see the weight difference in the rear brakes too - i've only "heard" that the discs weigh more.

Yeah well my suggestion is get what ever you please, but if your going to want to spank everyone you see and make it easy on yourself go with the 92-95 cx or vx weighing in @ a measly 2094llbs.....dx=2275......Si a whopping 2326lbs!!

on the Ek modles it goes like this ....96 cx hatch 2222lbs.....dx =2262llbs
Coupe dx=2262 and ex=2483

Da 96 4dr DX model Which is what i sport!! comes in @ 2319llbs!

So in conclusion a 92-95 cx/vx kicks ***!! But if you get an Si hatch REMEMBER your heavier than a 96 4dr dx!!! Also heavier is the 96 ex coupe!!! and the dx modles dont fall short!! ethier!! he he dx b16 powered hatches BEWARE!!!

*edit* the above post wasnt there when i wrote this!!

The JDM SiR EG6 (climate control, no sunroof no ABS) weighs in at 1050kg = 2315lbs. The SiR2 is naturally heavier thanks to ABS standard, auto tranny option, LSD option and other interior options.

That's with B16A. All other EG Civics from Japan weigh in at under 1000kg (around 900kg to 950kg ~= 2000lbs) mainly because they have rear drums, 1.5L D15 or carburetor engine and hence a lighter exhaust system (very very small diameter piping).

I guess in US they all come with D16 so it shouldn't really affect the weight that much across the models. I always figured the made the higher-end models (i.e. Si and SiR) weigh more because of the performance parts added... ofcourse this is all just speculation on my part.

It's true. And if you truely plan on tuning the car (i.e. swap) an HX is even better, power windows, power locks, no sun roof (head room), VTEC-E (wiring for swap), 11 pound rims that look decent, and a curb weight of 2328 with A/C, Power steering, full interior and only the spare tire taken out.

96 EX coupe w/ B18C swap and ITR 5 lug
No front or rear bumper supports, no spare tire or jack
2550 w/o driver, 1/2 tank of gas

99 DX hatch w/ B18C swap and ITR 5 lug
No weight reduction at all. Full tank of gas.

same car (different swaps):
92 H-back CX/DX, B16A, GSR brakes, strut bars, 15" wheels, 60mm exhaust, all interior, all exterior, 1/3 fuel in the tank = 1020kg or 2250lbs (without me inside)

92 H-back , D15B SOHC VTEC, GSR brakes, strut barts, 60mm exhaust, all interior, all exterior, 1/3 fuel in the tank = 950kg or 2100lbs (without me inside)

as you can see the B16A/B18C swap, adds about 150lbs to the car...
