weighed my hatch today!!
My dad took it to work and weighed my 92 VX hatch today. The scales are accurate to 20 lbs. With factory AC and a full tank of gas this piggy came in at 2140. HAHA, im happy. SHes completely stock right now, full interior. With AC out, and less gas in the tank could be a 2040 lb. car, and thats with full interior. Thought id share

I really dont think that you will loose 100 pounds in
gas, but thats not bad for a stock hatchback.
You guys need to get creative on places to way your
cars. If all else fails go pay and use a scale at a truck
stop. I know at some of the local ones in washington
they leave the scales on even when they are closed,
so you can drive onto it and just go peek in the
window. I think the semi scales are a bit less accurate
though, I think I read something like within 40pounds
or something.

I guess gas changes weights though. Found some good info on it
at faqs.org
"When I worked in an automotive engine test lab - dynamometer tests - we often had
to calculate the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) of the test engines. We had
a chart for fuel density vs temperature for our fuels that was updated monthly. As I
recall, the typical weight of gasoline at 72 degrees F was around 6.25# per gallon.
As it became cooler it became more dense and thus weighed more and above this
temperature it was less dense and a gallon weighed less."

i said 100 lbs. with AC removed (60 lbs.) and less gas in the tank. Its an 8 gallon tank, so thats roughly 50 lbs. thats 100 lbs. easy. My dad works at a Dow Chemical plant, they make ploastics over there, and need to weigh it before shipping it out, he just used those big scales, accurate to 20 lbs. Truck stops would be even more accurate, but i think they charge 7 bux. Ive went to the dump and did it for free, but i think they are only accurate to 100 lbs.

If I remember when I did mine with all components, i mean wiring, the zipties that held it to the car... everything. We were at something like 84lbs if I remember correctly... But this was a few years ago and the scale was found so who really knows... Who needs AC anyway... That **** is for girls...
