35 lbs might just be the right weight. I dont think there is a difference in the actual roof other than 1 extra lock or something in the back panel. So the the manual roofs might weight less because of this. I remember the many times when I disassembled mine... The parts that weight the most are the actual locking mechanism on each side, the metal overlay doesn't really weight that much but a few pounds.

Like I said before, the actual metal overlay of the roof is very light. I dont know of any company that makes a carbon fiber roof overlay for the del sol, but I imagine if there is one, it will most likely be very expensive for just a few pounds weight saving. IMHO it wouldnt be worth it.
There is a company that sells glass tops ( not real glass but looks like glass) for the del sol. AMERIPOL or something like that. You can get the glass top at http://www.solsociety.com... I hear these are lighter than stock metal roof but then again, probably by no more than like 3 lbs.

The tops are made of aluminum so there not that heavy, they make them like that so one person can remove the top easily.

Not true, for the UK at least...

The manual roof is aluminium, and the roof for the transtop is steel!

I've felt both side by side, quite a difference
