Water in trunk. Sun roof drain?
Car: 97 EJ8 coupe
Problem: Every time it rains or snows here my trunk gets water in it. I know its not the tail light gaskets because I just put new tails on and new gaskets. The problem was there before and after the change. I also don't think its the trunk gasket as it is dry just inside of the gasket all the way around. The water seems to come in the general area of the trunk hinges. The head liner is dry as is the back dash and back seat. Water comes in on both sides of the trunk but seems to come in more on the pass. side of the car.
My questions are where do the sunroof drains travel. Where do they exit the car. Are they just rubber hoses?
Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Water in trunk. Sun roof drain?
I've had the same problem on my 97 civic. I've sealed everything and water still got into my trunk and had no idea what the problem was. Until...I found a SMALL little gap were the water was getting in were the trunk is...
When you open your trunk, look at the reservoir around it, were the water from the windshield goes when it comes down it. On the corners, you'll see a crack that goes down the middle of that reservoir on both right and left side were it was welded together. Water was leaking into my trunk from that little *** crack on both sides.. It wasn't a lot of water, but if you have a lot of water flow continuously down that it really builds up. Pour some water on both sides of the reservoir and look right underneath inside the trunk check for little drips of water.
I don't have a camera right now that works, or I would take pictures for you. I'm searching google now for a trunk picture lol too show you exactly what I mean.
EDIT: random picture edited

I had the same little cracks develop on my '94 hatch. They're actually sealed, not welded, from the factory, which is why they crack. If you remove the tail lights, you'll see this "sealer" is just kind of brushed on where the panels meet.
I used a flexible sealant for windshields. Worked great, but had to be re-done in a few spots 2 or 3 years later.
About those sunroof drains though INF, the tube runs down the right side of the car and dumps behind the RR wheel through a "grommet/tube" that passes through the body. I also thought this was my problem after I found a bunch of old leaf parts and dirt clogging the exit. Might want to give it a look while you're messing around in the trunk.

X3 on the trunk creases and silicone sealer as the fix. I used white caulk, it looks ugly, silicone would definitely be better.

I am gonna look into this also. I get some water in my trunk when it rains. Not a whole lot but any amount is to much. I have some clear silicone so when I get my car back from body shop I will look into it.

Uh oh more water in the trunk now
94CivicSi: Your right it isn't welded lol. I was thinking about welding it and typed it like it was a welded joint haha.

As it turns out, this is definitely the problem. Couldn't fix it today due to rain and I didn't have enough time today to leave the car in the garage long enough for caulk to set.
