Default which hose water temp gauge install (checked archives)

I have checked the archived stuff but i didn't find what i needed. I am going to order an adapter burb so i can install the probe for the gauge in one of the coolant lines. But it is not long enough to reach the upper radiator hose. It can reach the lower and the hose that comes out of the head and what i believe is going TO the heater core. My question is which of these would be the best? and is that hose actually going to the heater core, it has the adjustment valve on it and i think it is the valve that determines how much coolant goes to the core. Is there enough flow there to give me an accurate reading?
