Default Warped Rotors?

How can you tell if your rotors are warped? I dont know much about brake systems. Any help is appreciated.

you can see small spots on the rotor, or uneven lines(surfaces) on the rotors, if your rotors are still good it should be even and smooth.... its its warped, take it off and resurface it... if its too damaged to be resurfaced, get some drilled and or sloted rotors..... hope this helps

When you step on the brake..the whole car will shake. Feels like the front of the car is way outa alighment. Both my civic and eclipse, and every other civic i have ever driven which was driven somewhat hard, has warped the stock rotors. They just suck!

I replaced both my civic and dsm with brembo crossdrilled/slotted rotors. No more rotor warp! And the brembos were cheaper then the stock rotors.

it's pretty much impossible to tell visibly. If you're driving and the car "shudders" under brakeing, you probably have a warped rotor although, it could also be cracked.

If you have a micrometer you could set up, you can check the runout of the rotor on the car, then you'd know for sure if it's warped.

I wouldn't get slotted or drilled rotors to replace them with. You're just begging for heat-checks and cracks, especially if you're using them on the street. A set of Brembo OE replacements is good enough for track use as long as you've got a good set of pads too.

I think you mean a dial indicator

the only time they really shutter or shake is at highway speeds over 55. I dont really notice anything under that speed. Not sure really
also how bad is it if I wait to get it fixed?

If at high speeds 55mph and sbove when braking your car shudders, your rotors are warped, I just replaced my rotors and pads. it was about $260 for parts and labor. I replaced mine with the stock rotor, If you wait it won't really do horrible damage since you should just get new rotors instead of resurfacing the old ones. I resurfaced mine once and within a month my car shuddered again, and resurfacing them cost just about as much as new stockies.

If your going to upgrade i'd get slotted not drilled. slotted helps keep them at a low temp. and not having it drilled prevents the cracking.

Cliffs: if they are warped get new ones, going upgrade get slotted not cross drilled and slotted.

I only have 11k on my new rotors and they shake at high speeds when I hit the brakes. They don't shake at anything under 70 or so. Does this mean they are warped? My friend told me it was the brake pads that cause this. How could they be warped already? I don't brake that hard at all and my car rarely sees speeds above 70 on a weekly basis.

did you get the car with those rotors? you never know how anyone else drove it?
I'd say that they are warped...
the pads might be the cause but i douobt it.
Rotors warp by getting really hot then cooling with some sort of pressure on them ie: braking kinda hard or alot then parking with the e-brake on. that being a very simple thing is enough to warp the rotors to a certain degree. and they don't get better only worse.

also check the torque on your lugs, that to if they aren't equal can eventually warp rotors

I got new brake pads and rotors 11k ago and I am already noticing this. I find this quite ridiculous considering how much I pamper these brakes. I used to be hard on brakes, but I have been taking it easy on these pads and rotors and they still shake pretty hard under heavy braking at highway speeds. Does this mean the damn things are warped?
