warning to all honda drivers!!!
The other day my front lower control arm nut fell off going 50mph, you can imagine what happened, but it was because of no cotter pin, I check the other side to be safe and no pin there either. I also checked my friend civic and no pin on either side of his either so warning to all check to see if you have cotter pins on each side.

This is not new news. Sounds like where ever has been servicing your cars has been doing a lousy job.
Any good shop would have replaced the 15 cent cotter pin through the castle nut as required. There are many other parts of the car that could be very dangerouss too if parts are missing.

Whoever worked on your car doesn't know how to work "properly" on your car. Replacing or putting back the cotter pin is just common sense, put back whatever your took out. Even if they were a backyard mechanic, they should have always make sure to check the factory service manual before touching any part of the car to be safe.

They like to rust and break off too. I buy the longer ones that barely fit and cut them down so they dont hit the rotor dust shield.

Re: warning to all honda drivers!!!
When it fell off I thought i had a blowout and it sent me across 3 lanes and stopped in the turning lane, the stud grinded metal shaving off of my wheel, and the wheel crushed into my fender, and a small tear in my sideskirt, not to mention it pulled my axle out.

Yeah, dude, you need that cotter pin. Definitely. When the suspension's under load, that's about the only thing holding the castle nut to the balljoint. Really suck that it had to happen to you.
I buy the long ones, poke them all the way through, then bend them backwards with the pliers. Cause I'm paranoid like that.

Re: warning to all honda drivers!!!
yeh man this is common.
in my 1995 acura integra a shop recently did clutch change.
last week i ****ing was at a stop sign. looked out my window and saw some kid i always laughed at. laughed at him, tried to accel threw the intersection and my lower balljoint popped out and my axle boot got rippedo ff and tire locked. called toe truck
cost 40$ for toe to his shop and 100$ for new balljoint axle boot/grease/hose clamp and to get it put on.
so 140$ cause the castle nut came off due to someone forgetting a cotter pin or it just snapping anyway.

there is NO reason EVER for a cotter pin to fall out if it is replaced with a new one and it is bent over. its like putting lug nuts on and not torqueing them.... stupid.
