Default Want a little more power out of my daily.

Background
I have a USDM 1995 ex coupe. Everything is stock. I just want a little more get up and go by doing a swap. no turbos or superchargers. What would be a good engine for this? Desired price limit $2000-2500.

*EDIT* It is 5spd M/T

How much more power do you want or what is your goal?

Get the biggest engine with the most horsepower that you can afford.

tbh, I think 150-180 would be sufficient.. I don't plan on racing or anything, but the D16z6 just feels sluggish. When I put my foot down I want a lively response.

*EDIT* I ask this because I thought i had it all figured out when I planned to purchase a b16a engine from hmotorsonline.com but then I read somewhere on the forums that engine was a waste of money and also quite sluggish.

Please reread my OP. I'm not trying to make a stock civic fast. I clearly say that I'm looking to swap my engine.

Biggest engine you can afford. It really is that simple.

I'd boost the Z6. Someone in the Marketplace is selling a COMPLETE (minus Emanage) Greddy kit for the D-series for $1,500. That included engine internals for a solid build. Destroy any swapped car for a fraction of your budget.

if you want fun and a solid motor go with a jdm b16a. if you want faster go gsr but they all burn oil and smoke. if you want fast out the box go with a type r swap it will cost little more then 4k but there out there. no vtec dohc swap not worth the money if you dont want to go turbo. i would stay with the sohc with a little cash you can get them to screwwww and still get 32 mpg

you could build a fierce sohc for $2,000-2500 N/A or TURBO. hell with all the information and builds out there just copy one that works exactly and its a done deal. or go b16 or b18b LOL.

This question is open to many different anwsers.. for example I love H swaps but Joe blow like B18 Swaps, and sally may loves J swaps because women always like bigger things in their bay. so it all depends on what you want.

But when I was N/A I had a bone stock H23A vtec blue top with bolt ons and a tune and put down 227whp 174tq and I spent a total of 1500 on the entire swap do that with a d series

Is it really that cheap or did you just get lucky with the parts?

I picked up mt H23A vtec blutop from tigerJapanese for $550 plus shipping put me at about $880 for the motor + $250 for H23 Tranny + 220 for Advid mounts + 160 for axles + $50 bux for shifter box with cables . did my own wiring and exhaust work. puts me at a grand total of $1,560 but if you dont have a Chipped ecu you have to include the price of that aswell and tuning but its the most bang for your buck the price has gone up for the H23A blutop recently but even at the current price if you shop around for your parts you can get the swap together for really cheap! put out more power that a type R and **** ton more torque

My old setup before I switched to my built h22A for boost

h/f series would be the best bang for the buck, or b20. Or boost the D series. Boost is nice. Stay out of it and get good gas mileage and rev it up and get some good power. Sizing everything to each other is key though.

engines dont automatically smoke. if their service is done correctly, and there's no blow-by, you shouldnt have any oil loss at all.

both b16a and b18c are great engines. Pick one based on your budget. I prefer buying junk engines and rebuilding them for cheap. buy knocking gsr longblock, rebuild, machine, new gaskets, half price.

^ Ive been toying with the idea of doing this...I see b18C1/5's.... on craigslist for cheap...that knocks etc...and rebuilding it.

The whole----no engine building experience---stops me. I might try it out...

I also like to build engines but I have found out that H motors put out great power for the cost. I had a fully built B20 vtec and was barely flirting with 230whp and with the H23A vtec my favorite H motor of all time its 220whp out of the box with quality boltons and a good tuner just somthing to think about. I had 2,500+ in maching work and after market parts on the B20V to hit close same horse power mark as a built B20 vtec with less torque. godd luck with your decision, dont be scared to be different with your swap you dont need to do what everyone else is doing
