Default Want to buy an ek, which route should I take.

I want to have my first EK hatch, and I know I eventually wanna customize it and swap and what not, but I am curious which kind to buy. Should I buy an unmodified EK hatch, clean title, 1 owner, and well maintained for around 4k to 5k, or should I get one that's cheaper, may not be perfect, but that wouldn't be too bad because I'm gonna swap and change everything up anyways. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

First off, you would be buying an EJ6, not an EK.

You should start off by reading this sticky

https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...sting-3002401/

Then read this sticky

https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...tions-1998336/

Your question is a classic example of "Opinion polls lacking technical merit", with a little bit of "Questions about the value of cars and car-related items/jobs -- only permitted in Value sticky" tied in. Read through and browse the forums, and be ready to make your own decisions, and you'll find any information you could ever imagine needing here. Just help us help you by making sure to read and understand the rules sticky, and read through the FAQ sticky before asking questions that have been answered hundreds of times before.

I know the chassis number is. When I had an impreza I always called it a gc8 when I knew it was a gm6. I just thought I would call it an EK because that's what everyone usually calls it. Even the subtitle of this forum says EG/EK Civics Discussion.

Thanks for the links, appreciate it.

While that might be true for the ignorant masses everywhere else, in this tech section, there's a big difference. Nearly no diagnostic numbers are the same between, say, an EK9 and an EJ6, and diagnostic steps between an EJ7 and an EM1 are, in a number of places, different. In dealing with all of the 5G and 6G chassis', as well as the Del Sol chassis', clarity is key.

EK9 bro so jdm...I agree with Notaracist, so many dumb kids like OP be like how do I build my "EK". Just load it up with spoon calipers and CCW's that's the trend these days few actually know anything about "building" an engine.

To do it "your way" you're going to have to read up and not ask everyone else what they would do or buy. Also. when you post a question in the tech section it has to have some tech in it.

It might seem like we're being ********, but we really aren't. We see questions like yours almost every day, and that's why we have the FAQ sticky - in hopes that people read that, and save us from answering the same questions day in and day out. Quite literally everything has been done to these cars, and if it hasn't, there's probably a good reason why. There are also a lot of old adages that get thrown around the forums frequently that you can easily find just by reading through the FAQ sticky. Two big ones that directly apply to you are "Speed, money, reliability - you can only have two", and "never buy another person's unfinished project".

At the end of the day, though, it's your money, and we aren't here to tell you how to spend it. Once you've decided how to spend it, and know what path you want to take, we (and the FAQ sticky) can help you in that direction. If it's a stupid direction, we'll tell you that, too. We won't sit here and tell you how to spend your money, though.

Good point. Maybe the text should be edited to say: "EG/EH/EJ/EK Civics Discussion".

Did I miss a code? Do the Del Sols have codes as well?

Really dont see what the big deal is tbh lol. Saying ek in the title and the model in the body is fine with me. If the original makers of honda tech used eg/ek, then obviously they didnt care about it, why should anyone else? We essentially know what we are talking about saying ek. We being honda gurus should have no problem figuring out what car the future ops should have based on the motor and use of ek or eg. The processes for fixing these engines are pretty much the same as far as single cams.. jeez folks, dont demand everything all at one time, let the brain work a little bit to figure out the car THEN the problem.

Because we have had instances in which actual EK owners are given incorrect advice because everyone just assumed it was a regular USDM vehicle.

But thats people assuming. If someone said my ek is misfiring. I have a d15b, or b16a, we can go from there. Im only saying, you folks dont need to be spoon fed with a year, make, model, trim, vin and everything else

Once future op includes the engine in his/her vehicle, we can go from there.

I disagree. There should be no need for anybody to assume or guess. The OP of tech thread must supply accurate car information in the first post, as stated in the Rules sticky.

Yes, but we need to stretch our brain muscles! It makes it more entertaining if we have to go off of ek or eg and the motor lol. Part of the magic, is using..... The mind lol

No. We don't. When troubleshooting so much time is lost unless all relevant information is not presented up front. A diagnosis that could take 1 or 1 posts mays take dozens because the vital information is being piecemealed by the OP.

The saying "its not work if you have fun doing it comes to mind. Sometimes valuable info gets brought up when people just post random stuff. How is a thread useful if it has just 1 or 2 posts? Guys make everything so serious. Which i expect from grumble. No offense lol.
