Well considering that C.A emissions laws are more strict than W.A. emission laws... The only thing we have to add to jdm engines to make them emissions legal is an evap purge control solenoid onto the intake manifold.

They don't really check under your hood. Last time i went they just stuck something in my tail pipe n etc etc. my cx ran so clean he was liek...wat the...is there an exhaust leak or something...rofl. btw this is in King County WA. if its jdm you should ask a shop?

i have a friend that works at the emissions place so i can usually get anything passed and in about two years ill become emissions certified after completing my itec program.

Does your emissions test include a visual test? If it does, then yes, you need an evap purge. If not, then you probably don't need it.

Depends on what jdm motor you have.
B16a = yes drill
B18c (gsr) = no drill, the manifold is already tapped for one.

throw on a single cam ecu and smaller injectors do a tune up and be sure to clean the line before u go with some heat do that like 3 days before so it cleans the line. youll pass.

my plan is to go b16-a2 or a3 in a del sol. what im trying to decide is whether to get a jdm motor or just play it safe with a usdm. also is there any mechanical changes you have to do with a jdm motor since its made for right hand drive and your putting it in a left hand drive...everything fits perfect?

engines are engines, the only difference is that the wiring harness connects on the other side of the motor. and don't throw a single cam ecu onto a vtec motor... play it smart and just hook up all the emissions stuff if you worry, jdm or usdm engine doesn't really matter, imo.

The only difference between a usdm motor and a jdm motor is the evap purge control solenoid valve. The jdm doesn't have one. However, there is still a little lip on the backside of the intake manifold where it can be bolted on (but you'd have to drill it yourself).

A JDM motor swap is just like any other USDM swap, the only other thing is that the engine harness will be on the other side of the engine (since it's RHD). The simplel way around this is to use your civic engine harness.

Yes, everthing fits perfect.

Just make sure you get a shift linkage from a 1994-1997 del sol VTEC model. ONLY this shiftlinkage will work on a del sol... not from a civic... not from an integra.

i guess it would be easier to just get a b16a3 then...that way i know everything would fit right the first time. does japan make a version of the A3 for japan del sols?

There are no JDM B16a3's, just B16a 's. You're going to have to find someone with a Del Sol that has a B16a3 they'd like to sale.

ALL b16a(x) are going to fit the same! Well except for the obd0 b16's which have a cable tranny. USDM/JDM it doesn't matter! You don't have to build custom anything to make this work.

ANY b-series engine into a del sol will need that 94-97 del sol vtec shift linkage. B16a2, B16a3, b18c1, b18c5, etc....

This swap has been done for YEARS! It's complete plug and play!

It's apprent you haven't done ANY research on this at all.

and yes i know that in japan they're all just B16 with no number after it. but they are still different engines. the SIR b16 is different than the SIR-2 b16 and those are both different than the XSI b16. they're all out of different cars. my question was what kind of b16 do the japanese del sol's have. why is it so hard to understand?
