Default VX owner - Looking for reputable importer of low-mileage JDM engines

Figured it was finally time to join H-T.

I've had my '94 VX since 4/08. It has 211k miles and runs like a top. I bought it for its fuel economy, and have been regularly hitting 45+mpg.

I'm interested in learning more about my Civic and doing the maintenance and repairs needed to keep it in great shape. I just replaced the valve cover gasket and did my first valve adjustment, so we'll see if it blows up in the next few miles.

I'm on the lookout for a reputable importer of low-mileage JDM engines; I'd like to have a D15B VTEC-E on hand for the eventuality of my motor taking a huge dump.

This is the first car I've really gotten my hands into, and it's actually pretty fun. Sound like there's a fair bit of knowledge here... still trying to get a handle on the search feature, so bear with me.

Have fun!

Welcome to HT! Check out http://www.hmotorsonline.com/

I know a few people who have dealt with them in the past and have had good luck. Personally I would never pay those kind of prices, I would rather find somethng locally. There are plenty of people all over this country who have great parts to offer. Check into the HT Marketplace in your region. Just do a little research on the people you buy from before hand.

Welcome to H-T.

Read the FAQ section at the top of this forum, lots of great information.

Use the search function before starting a topic on something that most likely has been covered before. If you get stuck, ask for help. There are alot of knowledgable people on this site.

Respect is key here, give it to receive it.

Tim

Thanks! I did download the Helm's manual, and it's actually much more intuitive that I would have thought.

The VX can definitely be finicky... cleaning the IACV made the single largest difference in getting the idle to settle down. Mine would surge from 1000-1500rpm at idle, even after warming up.

Hmm.."runs like a top" but you want to buy a spare motor? What aren't you telling us?

I own a 92 vx, 248,xxx miles and it is extremely reiliable and gets 41-46 mpg. If your engine has good compression (the one I own is 170- 175 all four) and is not using/eating oil (mine needs a half quart at 3k miles) I would not being hunting for a new engine. You may find the spare still sitting in your garage a couple of years from now. A used motor that is ~15 years old is going to need work regardless of how or where you purchase it.

You'll have plenty of warning before you need to do major work or replace the engine.
