"The ECM also looks at other inputs for VTEC operation - engine temp, engine oil pressure and vehicle speed (VTEC does not turn on unless the vehicle is moving). A separate oil pressure switch monitors the VTEC system. If a problem occurs, the ECM can turn off VTEC operation and will set a code, turning on the "check engine" light. In some cases, it can also cause a driveability problem."
Quoted from elsewhere. You might want to check a temperature sensor or the secondary oil sensor.
"The VTEC oil pressure switch is a normally closed switch. The ECM sends a voltage to the switch and expects the voltage to go through the switch to ground. If the ECM reads a voltage on that circuit when the VTEC system should not be operating, it will turn on the "check engine" light and set a code. This code will be a P1259 on a vehicle with OBD-II."

That's a fix for oil not getting to the solenoid. The pressure sensor is attached to the solenoid between the plug and the unit. Check the green wire on the plug for proper grounding.

I don't know if they have chips to just eliminate sensors. I know a P28 is very basic, tunable OBD - 1 ECU that won't look for it. But if you don't throw the Knock sensor code then I suppose you're okay.

yes a p06 can be chipped for vtec yes you can take the knock senser and a few other sensors out of it i assure you i have one in my 4 door daily shitbox.
now as for your problem what vtec assembly are you using? usdm or jdm?
what kind of car is this? more info please
