Vtec sounds not right on B16a2 on 92 eg
Hi I have a b16a2 swap on 1992 civic si hatch. It has a p28 chip which is map for b16. When I first got the car my vtec engage exactly at 5.5rpm and it was screaming loud. Now it engage at 5.8rpm and it doesnt scream as loud as before. I have no CEL or whatsoever.
Checked the oil pressure and it is good. Changed the cap and rotors. I brought to a shop and they can't figure what the problem is. Please help me =[.

thinking about it, its possible that either the vtec solinoid or the vtec pressure switch is not holding the oil pressure where it needs to be. they could be internally seeping causing you to lose oil pressure. just a guess, but it sounds feasible.
either that or your vtec lobes on your cams are worn out. not opening the valves all the way.

I cleaned the solenoid already. As for the V-tec fluid? I never heard of it, or are you just kidding.
How do I check if my pressure switch is good or not. I hope its not my lobe...

nope dead serious.. vtec fluid sits inside your driver side fender.. it'll be a little gray container bout 3" wide 1" tall with a little sticker that says "vt@k flUid" it'll take royal purple race oil

listen up fuckstick, let me teach you something about the internet.
when it is ok to make a joke:
when the original poster is blatantly being a jackass, overinflating himself or just being a tool. thread example would be "yo yo why iz my vtech not werking lik it did when i bougt da car?"
this thread is not one of those types of threads. so keep your retarded sarcastic jokes to yourself, newbie.
gurlugotmilk check your oil level.

Re: Vtec sounds not right on B16a2 on 92 eg (Kamin)
Thank You Kamin for the comment.
I just checked my oil and its fine and still very clean. I use Mobil1 Synthetic.
Someone suggested that it may be my lobe is worn out....Could it be my valves need some adjustments? Because when I got my car I Redlined it alot since it was my first DOHC Vtec car.
Any help is appreciated.
Will changing my chipped ecu to a different one make a difference? If yes can anyone recommend me a good ECU that would go with the b16a2 from 2000si

Then why is it engaging about 300rpm later? When I got the car it hits at 5.5rpm which is stock range for b16a2 and the Vtec was screaming loud. Now it just hits at 5.8rpm and Vtec doesnt sounds very loud at all.

the sound difference is probably in your head to be honest
the RPM difference might be a totally unrelated thing, your distributor could be on its way out or some other ignition problem.

most of the time when you get a chipped ecu, they'll use different "maps" like a JUN, SPOON, MUGEN, etc with different redlines, different vtec settings.. are you running an obd1 chipped ecu? my take on it is if its still kicking and it still pulls, you probaly shouldnt worry about it

as long as vtec kicks and pulls its ok? sorry but this sounds just as funny as your other posts.
to the op, check your spark plugs they might need cleaning/replacing, check your hi tension wires too. might be worth the look.

Could be oil pressure, but when it comes down to it, VTEC is either on or off, theres no real inbetween. Have you changed anything out recently, such as intakes, exhausts or intake manifolds? Those alone could change the way VTEC sounds when it engages. Other than that i can think of only two things, either your cam lobes have been worn due to lack of lubrication (i dont think ive ever heard of that tho) or its all mental and your used to VTEC.

Thank you for the help. I checked the oil pressure already and its good. Can a bad Catalytic Converter be a cause of it too?
I heard something was clanging like a broken metal piece near my downpipe/cat and when it went away, thats when my vtec started so sound screwy.
The Vtec doesn't pull as hard as b4. All my friends notice my vtec didnt sound right when I first got it.

Yes, something obstructing the exhaust flow will most certainly affect the performance, feel and sound of your engine, should it be severe enough. Best example i have is a friend who bottomed out their car, and pinched off the bottom of the headers, causing the motor to run very slow, and idle at 3k, lol. If you find that this is your problem, replace one or both, and you should be set.

Re: (97Ej6mike)
Also, VTEC is dependant on a lot of different factors: coolant temp, oil pressure, vehicle speed, throttle position, etc. There isn't so much as specific RPM at which VTEC engages as there is a range of RPM in which VTEC can engage, based on all other factors.
I'd check all the other factors as well.
