Default Vtec SOLENOID Leaking.....

Yes I have done a search. But if you look in the parts book it doesn't even show a gasket for the selonoid????

It's a 93 Honda Civic EX. Should I just put some gasket maker on it???

indeed, i'm taking it back off tomorrow and pulling that o ring off and inspecting that screen tomorrow. that's what happens when you work in a poorly lit garage in the dead of winter, with no droplight, and a crappy flashlight, and in a hurry to leave for work i guess.

Inspect around the filter. That is the most common spot wear they tear. Just a small rip and it will leak

Ok so the screen/filter is connected to the gasket. That makes sense now. Does this have to come from Honda, or can I get it from Carquest?

I would just get it from honda, they might have to order it from their warehouse if they dont have it in-stock. It beats having to pay unwanted shipping costs from a website.

The thing is the nearest Honda dealer is 40 miles away. It's just easier to order online. Or there is a Carquest in the building I work and they might be able to get it from Honda for me.

Best of both worlds They're a Honda dealership, they have decent prices for being a dealership, and they ship to your door. I guess it depends on how much you order, though, to justify shipping.

On the Honda parts book it shows 2 filters on the spool valve and 1 on the solenoid. Are the 3 freaking filters on the vtec assembly? Or just 1 fits on the spool side?

I just replaced the filter/gasket about 2 weeks ago, my local honda dealer had it in stock. I had to drive around to another dealership to find the gasket for the spool valve. Its about 20 for OEM Honda for the 2. Really easy to replace. Took me about 10 minutes while i was changing my oil only to find out the spool valve gasket was the one that was leaking. Going to fix that this weekend.

I want to say it was 15 on the diagram. Its the smaller of the 2 and doesnt have the filter. The picture above is for the base of the solenoid . It should only be like 5 dollars or so, maybe a tad bit more. The filter is 13 on the diagram if im not mistaken. You need 15

If the oil seems to be leaking from the base of the solenoid that is connected to your head you need 13, if it seems to be leaking from the top of the solenoid where the little cylinder looking thing is then you need 15. Might as well just replace both while you have the Vtec solenoid off. It will only cost you 20 bucks and is just another 3 bolts to take off.
