VTEC Solenoid - CEL Light
i posted a couple of days ago a CEL light that went off after i thought it was fuel cutoff or just too little gas in the car. Well yesterday i was in the 3rd gear at about 6k RPMs and my car just stopped accelerating (last time i was in 4th at around the same RPMs) and the CEL came on and once again no blinking, just a solid light. So since i thought nothing was wrong like a couple of days ago, i went to accelerate passed 5500 RPMs (with the CEL light on) and the car just wont do anything..as soon as it gets close to where VTEC engages the car pretty much backs down.
Im at work now so i have no way to test the solenoid, but is that a clear case that the solenoid is shot? if not what does anyone think it could be?

im not sure what code its throwing, it happened at 8PM so i couldnt really go to a shop or anything. havent tested anything either, not really sure how to test for that.
and damn, i just realized i unplugged the battery this morning to clear the code. it was just a solid light, it never blinked once from when it came on..just a solid CEL light.

It's more of a pain in the *** to clean it than figuring out which code was actually being thrown. And yes, when the CEL comes on, it should stay solid until you jump the connector to make the ECU spit the code out.
If it's blinking while your driving, and you're OBD2, then you've got a misfire happening.

nah, it wasnt blinking - i thought that at first but when i tried to go over 5500 RPMs again with the light on, it felt like the car died. so its leading me to believe its the solenoid. i hate to make it throw code again cause it definitely doesnt seem good for the car but i guess i need to find out that code. this bites

The funny thing is, IF it's a VTEC code, that's exactly how the Helms has you re-create it to make sure it's actually a problem.

oh man, well if i have to i have to ya know? its the second time this week that its happened, and both time were while in VTEC in between 6000 and 6500 RPMs
well i guess good news is, that if it IS the solenoid..i just called the shop that swapped my motor and they still have my other motor and i know that solenoid was good and spotless..the one in my car now the outer casing is all rusted so it wouldnt surprise me if the solenoid was effed

Find the thread on here about how to display and read codes. You're a big boy- you can do it. Then post back and let us know what code. Or you can run to a shop and have them put a scanner on it and pay them $50 to tell you what it is. Do this first before jumping in here and asking a bunch more questions.

ok big girl..need the scanner for obdII..and try reading the WHOLE thread...happened late last night and im at work right now and i cleared the code this morning before i left. so quit trying to be funny cause you just made yourself look stupid
EDIT:Now, if you take your OBD2 car (with cel) to a place that has a scanning tool (IE - AutoZone) the #'s will be different -> 5 digit codes.
If you go that route, the #'s are available here:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=466877
(I have never used a scan tool, so I do not know the validity of that list.)
theres thats from the link at the top of the forum..maybe you should try the search button before you try flaming someone.

lol are you serious...well i wasnt aware of that trick. but i dont really trust that for some reason. il just make it throw a code and go to one of my friends shops and get the code read for free.
