vtec solenoid ???
before i get flamed, this is a 98 GSR (stock) and i searched to no avail to my ??
? is, if you unplugged the vtec solenoid, should you get a CEL (im thinking yes--code 21)
reason being, my vtec does not engage and also when the vtec solenoid is unplugged, there is no CEL. so im just making sure. i can drive the car like normal, just no vtec. the solenoid clicks as well if hooked to a 12v source. i have tried 2 different ecu's and still no vtec and still no CEL and yes the CEL light is there and works fine.
and here's a link to my previous vtec link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1411682
---i figure the problem to my vtec problem lies in the fact that there is no activation from the ecu to the solenoid. again, a direct link my the solenoid to a switch will engage it, but if you hook it to the ecu (direct link again, not using the car harness) there would still be no activation. any ideas as well would be great
thx

Re: vtec solenoid ??? (pennies_hatchie)
There are alot of factors that go into engaging VTEC.
-Oil Level
-Vehicle speed
-Engine temperature
-Oil Pressure
and there are others....

yeah, got those figured. if you read the previous thread
problem lies in the activation of the solenoid--ecu is not doing it when it should, espcially when all the vtec factors are in order

yes you should. I was getting a cell when I had the solenoid plugged into the wrong pin when I did my swap. ECU didn't see the solenoid so it through a CEL
