Default VTEC problem, Cliche I know.

2000 Si with 00 Si motor 92 SI head
Stock cams p73 pistons
dc headers

I recently bought this car with the head needing to be put on. I put on the head to spec and started her up. No problems, even took it thru DEQ the day after.

I decided to through in some type R cams. I put them in drove it around and noticed VTEC wasn't working at all and the car seemed boggy.
Thinking the cmas were faulty, I took them back out and replace the origonal cams. Now, VTEC is still not working and It still seems a bit boggy(The motor feels as though It's going through the gear in stages, subtle, but I can still feel it.) I believe is "boggy" becasue it may be a bit off time.
I've troubleshotted the following;
changed the oil
replaced the vtec silly(completly)
cleaned the plugs
checked and rechecked all grounds
pulled cam rails and made sure their in correctly
My tach and speedo work correctly as wells as temp and fuel gauges...

I'm going to have to take it in if I can't get some good Ideas from you guys..

I'm taking it to my buddy's shop today to check timing and change the oil again as well as do a little alldata troubleshooting.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

But what does changing the oil have to do with ANYTHING? As long as there was proper fluid level in there, VTEC will operate. It will operate on 10k mile old oil just as well as it would on brand new oil. There could be 5qts of grape jelly in there, and VTEC would operate as long as there was fluid pressure.

OP: Your cams are mechanical. VTEC is called VALVE TIMING WITH ELECTRONIC CONTROL. I dont understand what you mean by faulty cams.

Anyway, Do you have any CELs? It's probably something electronic.
