vtec oil pressure switch question?
so i just installed a jdm motor that doesnt have the switch. i searched and read that everyone runs the sensor wire into the vtec solenoid wire and everything works ok.
can i not just jump the 2 wires on the plug for the switch together? or is the switch normally closed and opens the circuit when the pressure is high enough?
just curious, because if its tied into the vtec soleniod wire, it will see ground through the coil windings until vtec turns on. then the wire will see 12 v.
just trying to understand what the switch input is looking for. thanks.

You can jump the two wires on the preasure switch together, but don't connect to the solenoid wire. The preasure switch is normally open and closes to ground when preasure is high enough, input is looking for ground

thats what i was thinking. i wonder how it works for everyone else when its hooked to the vtec wire?

I dont think it is. Vtec wire throws 12v to activate the solenoid. If they say it works i'd also like to know how so. 12v positive for one and chassis ground for the other, no bueno. Sounds like wishfull thinking. You could make it work with a relay, taking the 12v to trigger and sending a ground to the signal wire.

thats why i was wondering if the switch was normally closed.
because if wired to vtec it would remove ground when vtec turned on.
right now i have the 2 wires on the plug jumped together and as soon as i go into vtec i get a cel and vtec turns back off.
im gonna check the cel tomorrow when i get to work, but im expecting pressure switch.

ok i did some more reading. the switch is normally closed, it opens when the pressure is high enough. thats why tapping it into the vtec wire is supposed to trick it. i think im going to use a relay wired normally closed across the switch plug and use the vtec wire to open the relay. i dont really want to run 12 v back into the pressure input.
thanks for the input nub!
