Default VTEC not working!! (d15b/p28)

Not used to the single cam side of vtec I recently purchased my 92 cx with a d15b down inside it. It pulls great right now. rips through 2nd and the occassional 3rd gear chirp. I now find out that the vtec is not hooked up properly. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the solenoid to the ecu? I am running a stock p28. thanks

i disconnected both plugs on the solenoid and I felt no change in power band, no change in sound (i know, its a single cam, so the sound change wont be as significant as say a b16b which i've had before), no change in powerband, stops pulling at the top of 4th gear. And I contacted the seller and he told me "he thought" when he had to buy a new solenoid that he may or may not have hooked it up correctly. Thats where I draw my conclusion. THANKS FOR THE LINK btw!

Yeah, the "idiot light" is on. I honestly don't even pay attention to them as with every swap I've ever had (6 to count) the check engine light has always been on for various reasons (most simple but not worth my time). where are you going with this?

its because the P28 ECU looks for the oil pressure switch and the JDM p08 ecu for the JDM D15b doesnt...therefore the JDM D15b does not have an oil pressure switch

hmmm if hes gettin a check engine light for the ecu not detecting oil pressure switch hes vtec is not engauging for sure a p28 will go into "SAFE MODE" if it doesn't detect the oil pressure switch for the vtec so i really have no clue how you feeling the vtec now

You should be able to hear the vtec crossover on a jdm d15b. My buddy has the same setup and when using either the p08 or p28 it screams like a b-series.

Theres just one problem with that. Its completely wrong. All OBD1 Vtec engines (JDM, USDM, or otherwise) have a Vtec pressure switch on the vtec solenoid and an ECU that looks for the pressure switch. All OBD2 JDM B-series engines do not have a Vtec pressure switch, and the corresponding ECU obviously doesn't look for one. All USDM B-series engines have the Vtec pressure switch and an ECU that looks for it.

If Vtec doesn't function there is either:
- A wiring problem
- Bad Vtec solenoid
- Bad ECU
- CEL that prevents vtec from working
- Not enough oil pressure, sometimes caused by a dented oil pan restricting the flow of oil to the pump.

Yes I realize this is an ancient thread, but I would like it to have correct info in it in case someone is trying to use it to solve their problem.

sorry this might be off topic but I see that you run a p28 on a d15b but what ecu would you have to run if you had a d15b block and vtec-e (vx) head?
