VTEC is not controlled by RPM's alone. It's dependent on load and throttle % as well. ALL conditions must be met. If you're at part throttle and medium load, eventhough you're past the VTEC crossover point, you'll actually make more power by not going into VTEC. And if your foot isn't pushing the pedal hard you obviously don't want VTEC anyway.

What motor is it? Not all VTAK's "kick" at the same specs. Gotta be more specific.

I'd like to say it's not 'til around 6k. It's way up there.

Lowering the crossover point doesn't really do much of anything. The higher cam profile is optimized for higher rpms anyway.

I know on my B16A I lowered it from 5800 to 5300, but that was while dyno-tuning the cam gears and the fuel curves w/ the V-AFC. Smoothed out the"dip".

its not a turbo or nitrous. its not gonna freaking kick. when tuned properly vtec will be a smooth transisition not like you went from half to full throttle at 5krpms. common now

i would say it "kicks" between 5.5k and 6k depending on load.

mine used to "kick" on my b16 at 5.5k at full throttle, but not its tuned to kick at 6k and red lines at around 10k
