Vtec Issues... 95 Civic w/b18c1
***Some Background Info***
This engine odviously came out of a GSR. I had driven the Integra this engine came out of and it had no cels and vtec felt/sounded great. This engine is now in the civic I bought.
*************************
I recently purchased 95 Civic 4-door LX with a GSR swap in it. The previous owner told me vtec did not work/engage because the wire/s he used for the vtec pressure switch were junk. Well, I have re-did the pressure wire and the solenoid wire. I have double checked both wires with a multimeter and they seem to be working correctly. But still no vtec. Here's where the fun begins...
I have no cels when I'm driving. Notta, NONE, ZIP, 0. BUT I went ahead and jumped the service connector and I got the Konck Sensor code. Upon further inspection I realized that there was no wire in pin D3 (where the knock sensor wire should be). Ok, so I gotta run a knock sensor wire. After some searching on H-T I believe I found out how to do it. I tapped in to blue/yellow wire and ran the wire to D3. Can someone confirm this? Here's a pic, its a shitty pic but it's dark.
On the other side of the wire (the ecu side) I didnt have the proper materials to correctly connect it, so I just ran the wire on the out side of the plug to where D3 would plug in to.
Next, I jumped the service connector and it no longer flashes but it's constantly on when the connector is jumped. But it turns off when it isn't jumped.
The car still does not have vtec. And the oil level is right on the $. So I removed the wire I ran for the knock sensor and jumped the service connector. The light is still consistantly on. WTF
Need some serious help here
*******************
One more thing
*******************
What the hell does this plug go to? I found it dangling in the engine bay and I'm curious to what it goes too.

that plug dangling is from the gsr harness ......... my friends 4dr with the same swap has it just chilling there too i think it has something to do with the secondary butterflys that the gsr and h22 use im pretty tired right now so im not 100% positive that is what it is called

Why would the IAB(butterflies)plug be all the way over by the battery, when it goes on the otherside of the intake manifold??

I'm running a P-72 and I'll check the screen later today after work.

I believe that the plug is for an oxygen sensor and since it is back by the battery it might be for the one that goes into the cat.

harness if from an ond1 car. they don't have a post cat o2 sensor, just a precat.
im thinking either that plug is for the secondaries or the knock sensor. eitherway it needs hooked up to function properly. tonight me and brandt were talking and i came to the conclusion that vtec could be activating, but if the secondaries aren;t hooked up then there may not be enough air flowing into the engine to alow vtec to make additional power. its like adding vtec to a cx engine, but keeping the 1.5" throttle body. no additional air to be sucked into the engine but vtec could be working fine. toamrow we will do some tests to pinpoint the problem, im just so buisy with work i haven't had time to fix this yet.

Is the EVAP solenoid plugged in? I think that your unused connector might go to the EVAP solenoid.

im positive the secondaries would have nothing to do with the vtec engaging ......... since the black ej8 i sold zach didnt have them hooked up nor have 2 of my other gsr swapped cars and no problem with the vtec

at like a 1/4 throttle you can hear the vtec engae slightly........ but if you get on it cant hear it at all ........ did you swap out those wires or just tested them ????? im wondering when there is a heavy load at full throttle if it is not engaging because of the wires being so shity ??????

Re: (VTECisSeXY)
Ok, Snail Tuning just came over and here's what we did.
1. Tested the solenoid with a 12v signal. Works just fine.
2. The pressure switch is properly grounded.
3. The knock sensor is now properly connected.
Still No Vtec
Butterflies are still not wired up...

also all wires for vtec are correctly installed. aswell as the knock sensor. just need to get a wireing diagram and find out what that plug is for.
just so everyone knows, the knock sensor in an obd1 GSR is Red with blue tracer. not sure where the other colors came from, but the 94-95 obd1 GSR wireing diagram states and shows red with blue tracer.

only have ever used p72 ecu with gsr swap and no problems with the vtec engaging ........ dumb question put you guys reset the ecu right ??????? because when i was originaly messing with it once the ecu was rest it would work until you got on it ....... i put this ecu in my friends gsr and vtec worked ........ but only drove it up the street and back didnt really put a hard load on the ecu ?????
