Default VTEC ISSUES

i have a 2000 civic si with the stock b16 in it. i always thought my vtec was just smooth and the crossover was just not loud until my friend told me to youtube it. their is a very distinct crossover into vtec in the video than their is in my car. why would my vtec not be engaging?
My cel is on also and im taking to get codes ran asap

yes first things first see what error code you have. then go from there it can be low oil pressure a bad cylonoid.
