Vtec harness plug

Vtec harness plug
I recently swapped my blown d16y8 for a d16y7, still running the vtec ecu with the vtec wiring harness. I had a crack in my exaust manifold which caused an exaust leak, but i purchased a new manifold today. My question is:
My car has check engine light...is that because of the exaust leak or the Vtec wire not being plugged in(no vtec solenoid on the non-vtec)
Any help would be appreciated because my tags are expired and i just paid my registration, i need to smog asap.
Thanks in advance.

Check your CEL. Post results. But most likely, you'll need the proper non-VTEC ecu to get rid of the CEL.
