Re: vtec engine choice
we need more info than that!
how much are you willing to spend?
do you want a single cam vtec?
if you do, then get a D16Y8 or D16Z6. I recommend the Y8 if you want to stay OBDI
you can make a mini-me but i wouldnt recommend it
if you want a DOHC motor with Vtec, you can get
B16, B18C, LS/V, B20/V or poormans type R
asking such vauge questions will not help you

OP, your car already comes with a d16y8 STOCK from the factory.

Re: vtec engine choice
A B18C swap will put you solidly in the 14's and cost you $2500ish
An H22 swap will put you in the low 14's and cost you $2500ish but be much more problematic to get working perfectly.
Turbocharging your current setup will cost $1000 and be faster than all of the above.
Regardless, you'll still be in a pile-o-**** Civic that used to be reliable and used to get good gas mileage.
Keep it stock, throw some suspension on it, learn to drive and graduate to a real car.

YEP
NOPE
Haha, yeah man, you already have VTEC.
If you're wanting to swap to a DOHC B series, it all depends on how much money you want to spend.

Do some research for yourself.
I'm tired of people joining honda tech just to ask these same questions when they can find out for themselves in just a few minutes.
OP. Bottom line, If you are looking for an upgrade "w/ VTEC" its not gonna happen with your budget.
