vtec engagement question
Hey guys, I'm new here. Decided to sign up after using the info on this site a few times to figure some stuff out on my car. This site is an awesome source of information! Anyways, got a question. What are the vtec engagement points for some of the B series ECU's? I have a '93 Si hatch with a JDM B18C and LS trans, currently running on a CTR ECU. Vtec doesn't kick in until about 6500 or so rpms with this one, does this seem right? It's a borrowed ECU anyways, so I'm trying to decide what would be a good stock ECU to run with my engine other than the P72 (OBD1 GSR). I would like to avoid getting into a chipped ECU situation for now, just want something that will pack a decent punch in stock form. Thanks!

Everything is correct except the B18C - 4.5. If you're referring to the GSR then it engage vtec at 5.5 also. Anyting lower is either chipped or mod with a Vtec controller which is pretty stupid. Unless its tuned wtih a dyno.

You can use a P2T which is a 99-00 Si ECU. But gotta converte it to OB1 since your car is a OBD1 and the ECU originally came from a OBD2 car. P2T engage Vtec at 5.5 and end at 8.2.

Oops, I'm sorry, the GSR (B18C) engages at 4400 RPMs. The GSR does not engage at 5500 RPMs. That would be the secondaries opening up.

Alright, thanks guys. I am planning to get a better trans eventually. Any idea why I'm not getting vtec until 6500 with this CTR (B16B) ECU though? Even my friend who I am borrowing it from says it should activate at 5700. I'll probably just go with a P72.
