vtec doesn't engage cause of map sensor?
hi. i recently purchased a b16a motor from hmotorsonline. The engine was very clean when it first arrived. My friends and i dropped the engine in perfectly without any troubles. but....my worst fear came when the engine didn't start. We tried everything. I had to go home because i had work to do...so my friend tried to finish the project without me. first he thought it was the fuel injectors...so he put the LS injectors in. still nothing... Then he thought the throttle body from the LS would do it. still nothing... so he finally gave up and took it to his mechanic friend. turned out it was the timing belt that wasn't on properly. so finally the engine starts. but now i'm getting a map sensor code...and i think the vtec isn't engaging. would it be because of the map sensor? and how do i fix the map sensor? buy a new one? how can u tell if the vtec engages on a b16a motor? sorry i'm asking so many questions...but i'm a real noob in all this. my friends were really doing all the work. i just helped out
thanks in advance

It could be ur oil pressure.
And for this question...

You should be able to hear it.

it wont engage with the cel on. either swap the throttle body or easier just swap the map sensor it self. clear the ecu and take it for a spin, youll know (hear it) when it engages.

If you are getting a map sensor error, common sense says replace the map sensor. If you have 2 throttle bodies, try just swapping the map sensors on them.

i'd put the b16 throttle body back on... .. to start..... thyen check the oil pan.. vtec wont kick in with out the right oil pressure

yes, i am having a similar problem and could not figure out what was up - check the sensor plugs as you may have them reversed with the plug going to the throttle body
may not be it, but worth a try as it is an easy check
