Default VTEC CONTROLLER

Does anyone here have a VTEC controller on their car? Do you think it's a good buy? I heard the one APEX makes is pretty good.

what is the advantage of a vtec controller. as i understand it, you can manually adjust the engine speed that the vtec cam lobes are activated. does this not cause driveability problems?

ya i had called apexi and my friend talked to them (carboy in houston tx) and they said it would make a big improvment. they said it should give 20 to 24 hp if tunned rite.

I really hope your joking, you might see a few hp, not much though. Besides the vtec switchover you can also adjust air/fuel with most of them too (fields, apexi).

I have a Fields unit in my car. It allows you to fine tune the A/F ratio and adjust the VTEC engaugement. Only good when used for dyno tuning, otherwise your playing with fire.

I have the apexi controller and it works good. My vtec hits in at 45 grand and my car is tuned perfectly. If you have a good mechanic it can make a big difference in your car. Just don't start messing with it or you're gonna mess it up

WOW, you don't hit VTEC till 45,000 rpm. hahahaha just kidding, but that does seem a little low for your crossover, mine is at 6000. Whatever works for you.

they told me the best way of getting that 20 to 25 hp is by proper tunning and dynoing it. they say that your suppose to get it dynoed anyway when using this apexi vtec controller. i dont dought apexi.. look at all the stuff it can do anyway.. most people on here h-t probley just got it running for the vtec instead of doing it all the way.. well im just telling ya what i heard from there mouths from apexi.. so dont bad mouth me.. just my $00.02

you probably better getting a full ECU unit rather than get a vafc. I've used it b4 but made not much difference (i got it tuned on a dyno as well). I must admit however, with the mods i got now i wish i'd kept it coz it can adjust a/f ratio which is really more useful than controlling the vtec kick in...

personally, i think vtec controllers are a waste of money. it is a tool that isn't used much only when dyno tuning, and i think it's a waste of $300, i'd rather get vtec crossover a lil before probably at 4900 or 5300 rpm, u don't wana engage vtec too early cuz it doesn't really do you any good, unless of course you dyno tune it, and if cross over earlier is better, then more power to ya, gettin ur ecu chipped does the same tho, only thing i see that's good with vafc is the a/f ratio tuner. that's bout it
and hard to imagine a lil tool like that givin u 20+ hp, i don't even think the comp itself reprogrammed can give u that.
just my thoughts ;P

You can get 25hps from tuning the VAFC if you have big cams, higher compression, I/H/E, and a very bad ECU program.

Only a relatively stock car, you will see around 1-5whps by tuning the fuel, and I wouldn't mess around with the VTEC crossover unless you have bigger cams.
