vtec CEL wont clear.
Oh boy its been a while since I've been on here haha. Been doing small things here and there on the EX and now I need some help. After along of tinkering with the VTEC assembly on my car I think I finally got it working again. The only knowledge I have to go off of to believe this is that the car won't redline if VTEC is not working.
I can get the car to redline. And I can "hear" the VTEC engage, but for some reason the car is still giving me the "VTEC malfunction" CEL. I know codes don't clear until the problem is fixed but I am fairly convinced it is. So why is the CEL still on? Thanks for any help.
Just remembered one more thing. I thought I had my bouncy idle problem figured out but it started up again. Today I noticed my timing belt is getting a little wobbly. Could this be causing a bouncing idle?

Re: vtec CEL wont clear.
I suppose I should have been more detailed in my explanation. On the VTEC code, the VTEC does seem to work and I do have other codes being thrown but the VTEC malfunction code is still being given even though it is working.
For the idle issue, I have cleaned everything that can be cleaned, played with the idle screw, replaced the throttle cable and after all that the idle was fine. But it has started bouncing again. I need some sort of explanation on to why and the only thing I can see that is out of the ordinary is the wobbly timing belt.

I had a similar issue with a bouncing idle on my honda. I took it to a shop and they did a smoke test and it ended up being a manifold gasket leek. I replaced the gasket and the idle stopped bouncing and my vtec code cleared. Now it runs great.
