Default VSS trouble code, no problems with speedo..

Just like the title says. I pulled two codes yesterday, one was primary o2 (I can deal with that), but the other is for the VSS.

Its a 99 EX converted to OBD1 with a z6 in it. Completely stock with the exception of a cat-back.

I know where the VSS is, how to test it, fix it, etc.. What I don't understand is why it isn't messing with my speedo at all, but still throwing the code.

I haven't had a chance to clean it or anything yet as I am still at work, but I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with this?

Try resetting your ECU and see if it still pops up.

Will do.

Another question I have is.. Could this be a result of a certain "instant" situation. Like for instance, if someone got in my car and drove it like an asshat, could that send the VSS out of whack?

or, is this just one of those "it happens over time" sorta things?

driving style will have little to do with the VSS code, it wil have something to do with the O2 code though.
Driving like an azz tends to run the car rich with will deteriate the O2 over time. If the O2 is weak going into the 'event' it will push it over the edge.
as far as the VSS, good question. You may have a bad engine-chassis ground connection that the drive made worse to the point of intermitent connection.

The reason I asked about the affect of driving like an a-hole was because I made the dumb *** mistake of letting someone test drive my car without me in it.

I'm pretty sure I know why the o2 sensor is going bad, and have seen that code before. It usually rears its head when I fill the gas tank from empty to full, on initial startup. I turn the key off, fire the car back up, and the CEL goes away.

When I was boosted, during a tuning session we pulled my primary o2 out, and set it aside. Well, I put it too close so to some wire loom, which melted onto the sensor, so I'm pretty sure thats what is causing the o2 issue.

However for the VSS it seems this is a "new" issue as I've never seen this code before. I've been meaning to put some new grounds in for a long time now, so I think this is probably a good time to do that.

I have not yet reset the ecu, but will in a couple hours before i head out to run some errands for work. After I've reset the ECU, do I just use the jumper to see if the code is still there, or do I have to wait for the CEL to go on again?

Reset the ecu, and both codes went away. Been about 2.5 days since I did the reset so we will see whether or not it comes back.

Hopefully not, cause this car is FOR SALE, hoping to move on to something else soon
