VSS Question
My Speedometer/Odometer has started acting up on me and I'm trying to diagnose it before I just start throwing money at it.
I've search and determined what the usual suspects are (VSS, Grounds, Cluster, Fuse 15).
But I can't seem to figure out which it is for certain.
I have a question:
What is the proper behaviour of a Speedometer when it is disconected from the VSS?
Mine sits at 30 and when I disconnect the VSS it drops to about 20.
Should it drop to Zero?
Thanks

Re: VSS Question (Dustin Sucks)
Helms has a process to check it, but it doesn't involve what the speedometer shows when its disconnected.
It has you test the Voltage from the VSS to the ECM/PCM.
- Measure voltage between the ECM/PCM connector terminals C18 and A9 (has diagram)
- Does the voltage pulse 0v and 5v?
If yes substitute a known good ECM/PCM and recheck. If symptom/indication goes away replace the ECM/PCM
If no check for a short.
There is also a section for testing the VSS itself with an ohmmeter. I sent them to your email address in your profile.
