Vitara Pistons Size and Rod Length help
i am building a d16z6 bottom end with a y8 head but in need of opinions on pistons for F/I. Im low on budget proabably can afford anything under $400. I am actually looking at the vitara pistons found on Egay. thinking about getting the 75mm standard pistons and using my stock rods with arp 2000 rod bolts. does anyone know if i that will be possibly safe to run up to at least 300whp???i wouldnt mind anything at least im over the 200whp mark for daily driving. i know that my C/R will be really low like around 7.3:1 with standard rod length but wouldnt that still be safe to run turbo set-up at like 20psi? people have been suggesting some longer rods but wouldnt that eat up my cylinder? anyone help me please!

They say that you need to notch the bottom of the cylinders as well as the block girdle, which is usual for aftermarket rods in D-series engines anyways. They'll bump up your compression and are stronger than the stock rods. But honestly, if you can only afford $400 or less to build your block for boost, you shouldn't even turbocharge your engine. Otherwise you're not going to be able to afford to buy a new engine & rebuild it, when you destroy your unsafely boosted current engine. Seriously, it's just $150-200 more, just save up and do it right the first time.

I have a Vitara/Eagle H beam combo in my Y8, the block had to be notched and the reason I went the Vitara/Eagle setup is b/c I and shooting for 400+whp with stock sleeves which is not uncommon with the Vitaras.
If you just want a little umph without building the bottom end, get the GReddy or Edlebrock turbo kits. They come with everything you need and are setup and pretuned for use with the stock block and will give you that extra power that you're wanting. You can also keep A/C with these kits!
I'll go ahead and fore warn you, I had the GReddy kit and I became addicted to boost and now have a fully built and boosted D shooting for 400+whp.
Have fun!

It's best if you get a shop to do it as they'll take away only the amount of block that is needed and they'll assemble it for you. I had a shop do mine.
