Vibration at idle....
Can you guys help me out?
Just got my B16 in my car. Using stock motor mounts but with Progress Urethane inserts for my torque mounts.
At idle when it drops to 650-700 it really shakes my car. Any way to correct this?
at 900 it seems fine. i don't want ot change idle that high so I don't waste gas.
Or do most people just live with it?
Thanks.

Re: Vibration at idle.... (Urugly)
Mine was doing similiar and I went against what everybody said and tightened up the TB cable. Had some slack in it too O.O. Anyway, I was able to bump my idle to about 800 and now it's fine. Though it's not recommended in any way, shape, or form.
The recommended way to turn up your idle is with the idle set screw located on your TB (usually on the front, facing the air intake arm). There's a whole process of changing it mentioned in haynes (and I'm sure in helms) but it didn't work worth of dick for me (you're supposed to like turn it, then pull the ECU backup fuse, then shut it offf, then plug it back in, and turn it on...or something to that effect).

i think you mean intake manifold... the idle screw is the goldish/bronze screw thats on the side of the throttle body.

Re: Vibration at idle.... (Urugly)
man take out those urethane inserts! I had an entire polyurethane mount for my upper engine mount and I spent months trying to figure out why the hell the car was idling rough. soon as i took out the damn polyurethane mount the car idled nice and smoothly.
truthfully I don't even understand the point of polyurethane mounts. maybe someone can enlighten me. the polyurethane mount came with the car which is why I had it. but since replacing it with the stock mount I notice no performance changes whatsoever and a much quieter and more comfortable ride.

FIRST thing first.. YOU need to decide what you're going to do as far as setting the goal of what you want your car to do.. The WHOLE point of Urethane mounts is to stiffen the engine movement so LESS horsepower is consumed by the rubber mounts and applied to providing power to the tires.. AS A RESULT of using urethane mounts your car will run EXACTLY THE SAME only you will feel more of the vibration your car makes when it idles since it's no longer on mushy *** stock crappy rubber mounts..
As far as idle adjustment goes...
THE ECU CONTROLS IDLE!! All the screw on your TB is for, is BASE IDLE.. It sets the idle within a range for the ECU to control idle effectively..
TO SET BASE IDLE..
-Run car til it is completely warm (Running til the coolant fan comes on)
-Unplug 2 wire IACV on back of the intake manifold (Has 2 coolant hoses in the bottom of it)
-Start car using a little gas, slowly let it come to an idle.. CEL should come on..
-Using a flat head screw driver, adjust the idle to 400-450 rpm.. (It helps to use an awl or something to clean the slot first so you don't damage the brass screw head.. )
-Turn car off and plug the IACV back in..
-Pull the backup fuse for ~5 seconds to clear cel code in the ecu.
-Start the car and if correctly adjusted, it should idle between 700-825
This also fixes alot of hunting idle problems that occur when people hack stuff up and don't assemble it correctly.. *Hint hint*

thanks for the resonse. I will try that. I won't remove my urethane mounts since I am going to be running boost and the stock mounts wont hold. Didn't want to buy expensive motor mounts from HASport and the ride isn't even that good at idle- it is horrible actually with those motor mounts...
vibrating all over the place...
anyone know if the street version innovative motor mounts less harsh???
Thanks.

Re: Vibration at idle.... (Gadget)
mushy *** stock crappy rubber mounts make me lol but yeah if you want to turbo that thing then you might want to just deal with the vibration.

Re: Vibration at idle.... (EM1FORLIFE.)
may sound weird, but try cleaning your throttle body butterfly. oh and my friend installed poly mounts to deal with his wheel hop at launch. that was the only reason
