vibrating exhaust when it rains???
i swapped a b16a into my ej2 and have 2.5 inch catback, for some reason when it rains, my shifter hits my exhaust when i try to go into 1,2,5,or Reverse......and it vibrates my shifter while im driving in any gear. when its not raining everything is perfect, my shifter was doing this when i first did the swap, it was hitting the hanger, so i ground the hanger down till it would not hit, but this is the wierdest and dumbest thing ive ever seen

Re: vibrating exhaust when it rains???
hi everyone,
ive been lurking for years and finally registered. i want to thank you all for the help Ive gotten from this site thus far.
i have a 2000 EM1 with 2.5 stainless catback exhaust, an oem onverter and a S2 dual bend short shifter. in all weather the shifter hits the exhaust in reverse sometimes if i am too fast on letting the clutch out as i back up.
in heavy rains the exhaust rides up the hangers and firmly presses on the shifter to the point of not being able to move it.
im thinking longer rubber hangers, bending the exhaust hanging tabs and as a last resort changing shifters...
any idea's?
thanks

thanks for taking the time to add some nonsense to my post. not only 2mins after i posted. what are you trying to get as many post's as possible to look like you actually know something?
people like you ruin message boards.... have a nice life.
can anyone actually give some insight to this problem?
thanks in advance...

Re: vibrating exhaust when it rains???
yea i bought the catback on ebay (brand called tsudo) 2.5" full stainless. w/ skunk 2 dual bend. all the hangers are connected. both are the correct parts for my car.
this only really becomes an issue in heavy rain. but it's a major one when it happens.

Re: vibrating exhaust when it rains???
I dunno if this is correct, but isnt the 2.5 alot bigger then stock? I know on my EF I had issues when I installed 2.25, longer rubber hangers and replacing the screwed up mounts helped, I think worn out mounts caused the front of the motor to angle down, hence bringing the exhaust piping up closer to the body.
check your mounts, and make sure the stuff s centered, and not on the very edge from a twisted or torn mount.
sorry I cant be of any more help lol
good luck.

Re: vibrating exhaust when it rains???
it probably is the diameter piping. I just got 2.25 done on my car and when I corner really hard i get some bump from the exhaust on the shifter. Im guessing thats what is at least. Im sorry i dont have a good answer but I hope your ideas work out atleast one of them

Re: vibrating exhaust when it rains???
yea, a combination of pipe diameter and the skunk 2 shifter. from what i have read, the S2 shifter creates a lower linkage point, and is more of a problem w/ exhaust clearance.
the rain thing throws me for a loop, (maybe the real stainless contracts idk). but we had heavy rains tonight and it happened. every time it happens i push the clutch in and blip the throttle some. 7/10 times it frees it enough for me to barely shift.
when i put the exhaust on, i had to grind off the overhangs on that double hanger under the shifter in order to have a enough clearance to shift at all.
i am going to try longer than oem rubber hangers if i can find some, and bending the hangers on the exhaust.
first i think i might try bending the exhaust hangers to accomplish that. how much could heavy rain water make my exhaust contract and ride up? i probably only need somewhere in the range 1/2"-3/4", maybe 1" tops of clearance
i wish i knew why heavy rains do it every time though, i thought it only happened to me until i stumbled across the OP.
thanks for info
