Very strange keyless-entry problem help!
My fianc้ has a 1998 EX sedan. Every now and then, the keyless entry system goes nuts. I'll come out to the car in the morning and the dome light will be flashing on and off more like a flickering. Once, the power locks will be continuously trying to lock themselves, but can't (while the dome light is flickering). This renders the keyless entry system inoperable and I have to reprogram the remotes. Sometimes, after reprograming while I'm still inside the car, I'll try to lock the car from the inside (using the remote) and I hear the lock's clicking noise, but the car won't lock. It happend for the fourth time last night. The big problem is that the car unlocked itself.
The car has a stock deck and an OEM CD player out of a 1996 Civic. Neither has given us any issues except this problem.
Any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

I install car stereo for a living, and there is a problem with the 96-98 Civic LX and EX factory keyless entry. If you replace your factory deck with another deck it'll cause problems. Try going back to your factory deck, and not the one from the 96 Civic, because Honda, factory keyless entry from 96-98 year requires the factory radio to be in the car, for it to work...let me know how things work out....

He has the stock deck in there....just added the CD player in the slot above the cupholder...I think.
Sounds like something is mussed up in the wiring or one of the locking mechanisms is gettin bound up somehow. Are all the doors shut good? Check the latches and stuff and make sure the doors are closing good. It almost sounds like the sensor is sending like a door open, door closed signal repetedly.
That probably wasn't much help but good luck!

Yeah, I have the stock deck and am fully aware of the 96-98 keyless issues.
I'll double check to make sure everything is latching tight - I'm pretty sure it is, though. I'd bet it's a wiring issue but was wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences.

My understanding was that keyless/security/etc. were all modules in the back of the stock radio. I'm wondering if your module has simply gone bad considering that you say that you can fix it by reprogramming the remotes.
Given any thought to calling up a salvage yard and getting the head unit from a 96-98 civic EX/LX?

Yes that's going to be my next step, most likely.

Somewhat same **** was going on with my moms Accord a few months ago, turned out one of the remotes was wacked out. I unhooked the battery from the one that was broken and the problem was solved.
