vehicle speed sensor question

vehicle speed sensor question
my speedo is junping around and doesnt work half of the time, so i figure its the vss.if i take it off of the tranny whats inside a gear?? can i mess anything up by removing it to get a replacement or is it just like 3 bolts and stick it back in and thats that?

generally on those cars itsa the speedo head itself, you can try a known good cluster amd see if that fixes it, but if u already have a speedo it wouldnt hurt to throw that in real quick and c if its fixed.

i would throw a known good cluster in there real quick and see if it works because it sounds like the speedo head, which is very expensive, so ur best bet would be to find a new cluster or if u like ur cluster find a different one, dissasemble it and remove the speedometer/odometer meter= speedo head, and install it into ur cluster, its very easy to do and theres only a few screws.

im having the same problem as you and i tried swapping the speedometer head that didnt work. i swapped out the vss that didnt work and the gear in the trans looks fine to me. i pretty much came to a dead end. i think its something with the electrical. and its throwing a code 7. idk its retarted.
