valve ticking

as the topic says I searched. i noticed not to long after i put my dc sports 421 header on i noticed a loud ticking. i changed the block to header gasket. nothing then i changed the donut gasket nothing. i then thought it was the injectors so i put some cleaner in a full tank but still nothing. im bout sure it is the valves. my ? here is. is it hard to adjust valves? if not then will i have to do it every week. my bro's valves ticked on his accord and he had to adjust like once a week. so if im gonna adjust them should i just get like some skunk2 stock size valves or something? and should i change everything else that goes with the valves or no?

this is on a 94 civic ex d16z6 sohc vtec

thanks a bunch

he had to adjust his valves once a week!? i think he is doing it incorrectly or just being stupid. You adjust your valve lash because over time the stock cam wearsdown and the lift/duration is changed so by doing the vlave lash it allows you to regain the lost lift/duration. U sure its not the injectors cause putting the cleaner in there wont make it stop maybe quiet it slightly but nothing obvious.

u dont have to get new valves and if u adjust them right it will go away it isnt easy it takes a while to get them done and yes adjust them

You could try changing the oil and adding one qt of transmittion fluid unstead of your last qt of oil. It leans the oil out, sometimes trash gets in the holes where oil is supposed to lube the cam. It's work for me before and you'll know if its the valve.

the nut on the rocker assembly? it is a 10mm. also the chiltons manual specifies that you should adjust your valves every 15K miles, and it has a detailed write-up on how to do it. have somebody around that is mechanically inclined when you do this if you dont feel comfortable doing it alone. i would start by adjusting your valves since it sounds like yours hasnt been done in a long time and it is free and you can narrow it down from there. you also dont have to buy new valvetrain components to do this. all you have to do is remove the valve cover. you will need a flat screwdriver, a 10mm wrench/socket, a feeler gauge and 17mm socket to turn the motor over. you will also need a torque wrench to make sure all the nuts are torqued to spec when you are finished. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
