Default valve guides=loss of compresion?

hey guys got a question, my buddy has a 2000 si. we just put in new valve seals and everything went to start it started right up but was missing in cylinder#3. Getting spark, getting fuel. tested compression way low it was from 35 to 50 i now what possible things it could be but something i never really messed with can valve guides make the compression be that low or is it something bigger? going to do a leakdown test tomorrow to make sure where it is coming from but just wanted to get some input. thank you
