Valve cover/valve train clearance problem
just painted a d16z6 valve cover. i knew it bolted right up to a d16y7 becuase i looks the same and uses the same gasket. i dropped the cover on my motor to run it around town so the paint would heat up and cure fully. got it bolted up and cranked the motor and i could hear the rockers tapping the cover...! just wondering if anyone else has run into this or if it was just this cover.
for anyone who is wondering i do plan on eventually putting a z6 head on, hence the painting of the vc.
just curious. thanks.

have you tried comparing the 2 side by side to see if one is taller. I know on 92-95 d-series, the valve covers had the spark plug holes on top/mid instead of towards the bottom for the ones with vtec.

yeah the 92-95non-vtec are completely different the 92-95vtec and 96-00non-vtec are supposed to be the same... i did compare them side by side and from the top and all the sides they are the same. when i put the z6 cover on it bolted up just fine, everything seemed to fit the same but then i started it and "tap, tap, tap."
i swaped the original back in and it was fine.
